Deep dark brown and amber coloured body with no head at all to speak of and a thick layer of yeast at the top of the bottle and on the cap - very interesting and not like an Imperial IPA i’ve ever seen before. Aroma of alcohol, pit fruits, caramel, yeast and bread - no hops at all to smell and more of a traditional ale than anything else. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong alcohol and pit fruit flavours with a lot of cardboardie malt at the back end with some raisins and caramel, along with a touch of toffee, but no hops at all, and no complexity at all. Aftertaste shows the slightest hint of bitterness, but it dies away quickly and the alcohol and light breadiness comes through. Overall, this one is just bad - no flavours, no complexity, no hops and definitely not worth buying nor bringing back home. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 02-August-2013 for US$2.49 sampled at home in Washington on 12-October-2013 to celebrate Detroit’s game 1 victory over the Red Sox in the 2013 ALCS.

12 oz bottle. Pours a hazed light amber with a white head. Candied ginger aroma. Flavor mixes biscuity malts with ginger and some sweetness. Aroma’s better than the flavor here.

12 oz bottle. Pours very dark brown to black with a tan head. Caramel and peaty malts briefly in the aroma, but then moving to cocoa and smoke, grape. Flavor leads with cocoa, then creaminess and dark fruit, roast and bits of peatiness and caramel. It’s really very good.

Bottle pour to pint glass. It is dark, unlike an DIPA. And the tast is nothing like a DIPA either. Like some other reviewers, I think this is a strong ale. Caramel, malty, slightly sweet with a boozy finish. Not bad, not great.

Bottle. Wood, dark fruit, and sour aroma aroma. Black with almost no head and chunky tan sediment. Flavor is sour and awful, undrinkable, down the sink. The chunks in the bottle were the first indicator something was off, and the flavor clinches it. Bad bottle.

tap at the brewpub last summer - Pours near black with a small head and a mild aroma of malt and dark fruit. The flavor is malty and... what’s this? It tastes off, sour... this beer is infected. It hasn’t overwhelmed the other flavors in the beer yet, but it’s working on it. Tap. From the brewpub. Unbelievable.

tap at the brewpub last summer - Pours very dark brown with a tan head. It smells of roast malt and chocolate. The flavor is similar with ample hops and dark roast bitterness. The roast character lingers pleasantly on the palate of this bubbly, medium bodied brew.

tap at the brewpub last summer - Pours copper colored with a white head. The aroma is mainly hops with a bit of citrus. The flavor, as expected, is mainly hops but frankly the hops aren’t all that great. I’m not sure if it’s a quality issue or what. The malt balance is alright and the finish is appropriately bitter. Not much character here.

tap at the brewpub last summer - Pours light copper/amber with a lingering head. There’s a mild aroma of caramel malt and hops. The flavor is mildly bitter with a light body and subdued malt. It’s bubbly and again, okay, but not impressive. To the prior reviewer, this is definitely not a sour beer. Your bottle was infected.

tap at the brewpub last summer - Pours amber and has a mild, malty aroma. The flavor has some caramel malts and mild to moderately strong hop bitterness that lingers on the palate. The hops don’t strike me as very crisp. It’s light bodied and an okay quaff, but something’s missing.
