Description
Not only was Dogfish Head Delaware’s first brewpub, it was the smallest commercial brewery in America. With our very first batches brewed on a system that was essentially three little kegs with propane burners underneath, we were brewing 12–gallon batches of beer for a whole restaurant. It proved to be more than a full time job and when the doors to the brewpub first opened, we brewed three times a day, five days a week! The benefit? Brewing on such a small system gave us the ability to try out a myriad of different recipes. Insert ‘off-centered ales for off-centered people.’ Our hunger for weird ingredients and venturing off the beaten path was just getting started.

Fast-forward to today and we’re still motivated by non-conformity. By spontaneity. By experimentation.

At every turn, our restless desire to create what hasn’t yet been imagined keeps us bringing new stories, new tastes, and new experiences to you.

Because we don’t jump on the bandwagon, we are the funky drummer.

Every day is an exploration. A thoughtful search through a crowded world, we search for that thing that makes us pause - that idea that excites us, the inspiration we can’t ignore. The journey can be unpredictable … but that’s what makes it kind of magical.

If you haven’t had the chance to taste Dogfish Head, find a beer, track down one of our spirits or visit one of our restaurants! You’ll quickly see why international beer writer Michael Jackson called Dogfish Head "America's most interesting and adventurous small brewery."

A thin white head on a clear straw body. The nose punches with ripe, slightly sour fruit with sweet biscuit malt. A beautiful blend. An array of fresh fruit notes - green apple, grapes, peach and pear are blended nicely with honey and roasted grain. A slight funk in the yeast and a very tart sourness make this a deep but refreshing and clean ale. Superior.

The 2017 version. A thin white head on an unfiltered deep amber body. the nose features caramel, scotch and resinous hops. Rich caramel malt, scotch and Cointreau booziness, massive and growing citrus and resin hops, sweet malt, field berries, apricots and plums all make the scene. the mouth feel is slightly slick and the body is dense and smooth. The ultimate sipper. It was a good year.

berries, honey, vanilla on the nose. a thin light tan head on a near black body. Slightly roasted coffee, some spice, cocao, vanilla and cream create a pleasing IS taste profile. Sweet honey and biscuit malt are not over the top. A clean body and medium density. A solid, well blended Stout reminiscent of a bottom fermented Baltic Porter.

A dense off-white head on an amber/orange body. Nose features citrus hops, brown sugar, apricots and fruit zest. A well blended and crafted double. Citrus and tropical fruit, melon, toffee, wood, dark berries and a hint of cherries work well together. Used to have a solid whiff of vanilla, but not in this batch.

A fast dissipating white head on a translucent caramel body. Nose is a treat with zesty fruit, some acidity, caramel, honey and grain. Initial effervescence is so active you can hear it. The taste is a great blend of rich berries, citrus, grapes, orange, spice, honey, apple and cider-like taste and acidity. Caramel is in there aswell. Rich, sweet, but fresh and not cloying. Well blended. Drinking history has never been this good.

A bubbly light straw body with a thin white head. The nose hints at sour fruit, lime and wheat expected in the taste. Really refreshing. A balance of fresh lime, salt, grain and some spice. Some sweetness but in the end the sour and tart take the day allowing for a clean finish. Top notch summer ale.

An interesting new take on the fruity IPA. A dark copper body with an active off white head. The nose features fruit juice, fruit rind and caramel malt. A fruit bomb that is not a total hop bomb! Citrus fruit juice galore here, with orange, lemon, grapefruit and pineapple elements. A rindy hoppiness builds as the drink progresses. Supported by a solid biscuit caramel malt backbone.

Who knew that Dogfish Head were stout monsters? Fluffy tan head on a near black body. The nose is a nice blend, featuring smoke, bitter coffee, milk chocolate and well roasted malt. The taste has a lot going on, adding dark caramel, trickle, some fruity hops, berries and some spices. A nice ashy finish as well. Fresh tastes and powerful staying power for a 7.4% ABV stout. Slightly sticky mouth feel, dense and smooth.

A hazy pale straw body toppoed by a fluffy, well laced head. The nose features Belgian yeast, spice and honey. A tasty, clean and refreshing Wit. Yeast, banana, coriander and cloves work well with tropical fruit notes from the hops. Sweet malt and medium density body balance out the profile. Nicely blended. A big fan

A unusually red/amber body for a Blonde Ale! Soft, well laced white head. The nose is understated with fresh and tart fruitiness and a touch of honey. This is a clean and crisp blonde ale that is nevertheless quite dense, full bodied and satisfying. A sweet tropical fruit cocktail with kiwi, melon, grapes, honey sweet malt and a hint of cherries. High to medium carbonation helps keep this from getting cloying.
