Description

The quad in this series of Eindhoven-based craft beers, thanks Jurgen for sharing. Lacing, pale greyish eggshell white, opening head, irregular moussy ring; very dark, hazy, deep chestnut bronze robe. Aroma of plum jam, raisins, fig compote, brown sugar, toffee, caramel candy, hay, dry earth, vague wet dog touch, port. Fruity, estery onset, sweet pear syrup and raisins, brown sugar sweetness with an underlying, plum-like sourish touch, softish carbo, thick and fluffy mouthfeel that completely fits the intended style. Toffeeish and caramelly, bready, bit toasty malt sweetness, lingering caramel and fig jam aspects but relatively well-balanced by a herbal, bit earthy hop bitterish note and port-like, warming alcohol. Very sweet even for a quadrupel, almost reminiscent of Kasteelbier or something like that, but technically well done, genuine, natural, rich and warming.

Coffee porter from this four year old microbrewery in Eindhoven, tasted at Bierproeverij Nieuw-Namen. Moussy, yellowish beige, creamy, opening head over a black beer with hazy burgundy edges. Aroma of very strong, dominating coffee, espresso, a bag of coffee powder, coffee-flavoured candy, overpowering basic notes of black chocolate, toffee, candied fig, cream, wet toast and tea Sweetish onset, candied dates, raisin, baked banana, pear syrup – but in a clean way; notably creamy mouthfeel thanks to the use of oats, toffeeish and fudge-like basis with chocolatey character further down the palate, the typical soft sweetness that dinguishes an imperial porter from an imperial stout, slight herbal hop bitterishness but the finish, as expected, is completely ruled by a very expressive, aromatic, ‘real’ coffee powder taste and aroma, highlighted by a dash of warming, rum-like alcohol. Feels like a liquid coffee praline or something like that, bit of a one-trick pony really, but if you like actual coffee, this could be your beer – it is among the most coffeeish of coffee beers I ever had.

Bottle from het Biermoment, BB 30-06-2019. Hazy amber color, medium frothy head. Aroma of butterscotch, some vanilla and cookie, some overripe fruits. Bit malty in taste, slight smokey whisky, butterscotch again, slight salty licorice even. Not overly complex and a bit out of balance, but still reasonably enjoyable. --- Beer merged from original tick of Luxe Barrel Aged Barley Wine on 27 Mar 2018 at 22:48 - Score: 6. Original review text: Butterscotch en wat rokerige whisky. Ok

Bottle @ home. Hazy dark amber colour with a small offwhite head. Smells malts, herbs, sweet, slightly yeasty. Tastes cookies, speculaas, malty, sweet, cinnamon, pepernoten. I don't hate it. It's a decent winter seasonal I guess. Sweet, slightly warming, full bodied. Basically a quadruple with some pumpkin spices added.

Bottle from het Biermoment. Hazy amber color, short frothy head. Aroma of caramel malt, mashed apples and some alcohol. Bit butterscotch, some spices, some pear. Alcohol burn in taste, caramel sweetness, slight marmalade. Weird. --- Beer merged from original tick of 't Peertje on 30 Jan 2018 at 23:50 - Score: 6. Original review text: Peer, appelmoes, apart

Bottle @ home. Clear amber color, fizzy white to off-white head that diminishes virtually instantly. Smell and taste malts, sweetness, sweet pear and maybe a hint of red fruit. Average body and carbonation. Meh. Imo: it doesn't stand out and it's way overpriced.

Already rated in on Ratebeer but still bought it. Ticking it on Untapp’d so I’m not drinking it for nothing.
