Bottle with three hop cones (I’m assuming 2010) via a trade. Pours with a hazy, hazy orange body with a thick white head. Aromas are huge with tropical fruit, big c-hops, papaya, grassy, resiny, estery. Fruity, light alcohol and some caramel. Taste is a bit oxidized (showing itself most in coconut flavors), caramel, toffee, medium to low bitterness. Light floral hop flavors with light warming. To be honest this has become a very acceptable, American barley wine. Sweet, but not really a sticky, caramel, crystal sweetness. Medium to lively bubbles. Medium bodied. A bit full for an IIPA, but dry for a barley wine. Overall: tasty.

Heavily roasted, too much really. Aroma of a dry stout with grain. Flavor is bitter, with grain, but a very light tartness that works. High abv for a porter, but it is not present in the aroma or flavor. Good, thick palate.

Very dark brown with some visible sediment. Aroma has malt, some red wine, red meat and a little smoke. Flavor is sweet, lightly smoked, and a very light tart flavor. Good.

Not bad at all. Solid malt base with fresh bread, with aromatic and mildly bitter hops. Very drinkable, and a dry finish. Clear, brown beer.

Purchased at Breeze Thru Liquors in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed on a nice early July Thursday night. Appearance looks pretty watered down, pale yellow with thin white head. Aroma of light yeast, slightly grassy, lemony, very summer like. A previous review stated pineapple in the nose and I agree. Taste of apricots (wasn’t expected at all) and pineapple, very fruity flavor, slightly tart, definitely goes down crisp with a very slight bitterness. Actually pretty decent stuff, not sure if I’d go back to it at all but I’m happy to have given it a shot. Also, this is reminiscent of Austin Homebrew’s Golden Ale recipe for mini mash, so if you like this beer and want to start homebrewing, get that recipe and it’ll be similar to this brew.

2010 bottle - had to buy this - there is a hop cone in the bottle; who wouldn’t want to buy it because of that? - anyway, at first it was cool, but once the cone got stuck in the neck of the bottle, making the beer extremely difficult to pour, it wasn’t quite as cool anymore - turbid straw color - minimal head after the trickle of a pour the blocked neck produced - earthy, piney hop aroma, with some additional grapefruit zest and underlying sweet maltiness - nice nose, really - moderate sweetness for the style - loads of earthy hop flavor - still tastes fairly fresh, despite its age - strong bitterness, but only moderate acidity - sweetness is just strong enough to temper the hops - finish eventually becomes a bit sugary, but this is mostly fairly well-executed - I probably wouldn’t buy it again, but you’ve got to love the novelty.

Pretty much a stout here, and a darn good one at that - black pour, soapy tan head - nose of bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, smoke, roast, wood - creamy and full-bodied - moderate sweetness tempered by bitterness from the black malt, as well as mild acidity - intense coffee/ roast flavors - bakers chocolate - a bit of anise and blueberry - lingering bitter finish - it’s quite good

12 oz bottle. $2 single @ Ray’s, Wauwautosa. Not quite "black," but still a deep brown pour in my shaker glass, with a nice eggshell colored head. Smell shows just a little bit of peat, and a slight touch of phenol. Taste is quite a bit of all right, though. Yes,warm, slightly smoked Scotch malts without the hint of harsh black malt bitterness. Much malt forward, website lists this as 6.3% abv. No discernible hops outside of a balance to the malts. Though somewhere down there I detect a note of pineapple juice. Or is that phenol? No, don’t think so. Very nice, warm beer that could stand to be issued in bombers or barreled.

12 oz. loose bottle, $1.50 @ Woodman’s. A nice malty smell when opened and poured. Sweet aroma with slight burn of coffee malt. Dark body with faint red highlights under a light tan head. Taste is not quite up to the aroma, but it’s good. Some roast malt bitterness, but a warming thread of alcohol. I can find a nice hop bitterness once the roast malt goes past me. Right kind of carbonation to let bubble bring the hops over the tongue to the back palate. Maybe too much coffee for my taste, but everything else was just fine.

This beer pours a hazed yellow-gold color with a thin off-white head that burns away steadily. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Fruity aroma with yeast and spice notes. Light body with flavors of citrus, belgian yeast and sweet malt. Mild spices in the background as well. The finish is fruity with a short yeast aftertaste. Decent overall.
