Description
Formerly known as 'La Face Cachée De La Pomme' and 'Domaine Neige' but those names no longer legally belong to François Pouliot. But this is the same orchard where the original ice cider producer continues his business after losing his trademark names in a legel settlement with his former business partners.

[375ml bottle of La Face Cachée de la Pomme Neige Ice Cider, Vintage 2006, bought in Quebec many years ago. ABV 12%. My 9000th rating.] A golden copper coloured pour with a ring of transparent bubbles; remarkably fresh red apple aroma with a hint of apple brandy; bittersweet apple taste with some toffee; and a long warming finish. Excellent.

Bottle purchased from Amazon of all places and drunk at home. Dark gold, clear and flat. Sweet and boozy aroma with strong applesauce and cognac in the nose. Sweet taste, more apples and some sugary toffee, mulling spice. Orchard fruit tart notes appear the sumptous finish. No carbonation but it's got a thick, oily body. There's so much to this.

75cl bottle from L'Epicerie de Paris, shared with Soph on a lovely sunny Sunday evening. Clear pale yellow appearance, producing an overly large white head. Super spritzy, cremant-like palate, extremely dry with a cremant-like sweetness encompassing overripe white grape and floral notes, clearly from the influence of the ice cider. McIntosh apple flesh emerges more prominently in time alongside subtle apple skin. Drying close. Interesting.

(750ml bottle from the SAQ) Pours clear pale straw god with a lively fading head of big white bubbles. Notes of sweet and lightly tart baking apple, apple skin tannins, brown sugar sweetness from the ice cider, dry hay, light floral notes, some minerals, finishing semi-sweet with lingering baking apple and soft spice notes. Light to medium bodied with quite high traditional method carbonation. Feels a bit like a sweet sparkling wine crossed with a fairly typical cider, it's not as amazing as their actual ice cider products but fine to open up and pass around at a big family dinner.
