On tap at the brewpub. Poured a slightly hazy amber gold with a white head that dissipated quickly to the edges. Aroma was full of earthy hops with grass and hay coming through as well as a bit of moist wood. Flavor was similar with lots of earthy hops and grass really coming through with a bit of grapefruit in the finish.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured a cloudy dark brown with a brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma was dark chocolate, sweet grains (slight smoke) and some banana backing. Flavor was full of bitter dark chocolate that oddly balanced the sweeter banana/clove note all the while being backed by a bit of smoke.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured a clear deep amber with a white head that dissipated slowly and laced nicely. Aroma had mainly citrus notes with a bit of backing pine and bread. Flavor was more malty with the citrus becoming a background, a bit more pine in the finish, and bread and grains throughout.

Bottle. Poured black with a lasting light gray brown head. Aroma was full of roasted malts with backing chocolate and a hint of hop bitterness. Flavor was similar with roasted malts a bitter chocolate throughout with a bit of hop backing. Solid but not by any means complex.

On tap at MBGSF 2010. Dark brown pour with a lightly sour aroma. Flavor has light cocoa and roast with a nice sourness. Well done.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured a cloudy yellow with a orangish tint and a small white head. Aroma was full of spice, orange peel, floral notes and coriander. Flavor was sweet with floral and orange peel notes and had a bit of an unpleasant grain finish.

Bottle. Poured an amber gold with a thin eggshell head. Aroma was malty with hay and caramel notes and just a bit of pine. Flavor was quite similar to the aroma with the malt profiles starting off and the pine gave it a bitter finish.

Bottle. Poured a bleak amber with a creamy head. Aroma had notes of grain and caramel. Flavor had similar malt notes with a bit of hops giving it a bitter finish.

Cask. Poured a dark brown, almost near black with a creamy tan head. Aroma had a combination of hay, bread and caramel. Flavor began a bit sweet but ended with a darker bread flavor.

2008 MBG Winter Beer Fest. Medium-bodied with roasted malts and modest bourbon characteristics, unfortunately overwhelmed by lactic infection. My rating is generous. Too bad this went sour.
