Good, not quite the revelation as Tabula Rasa, but still a nice pint. Tapers away from Tabula's heavy roasted notes, instead adding a modest chocolate sweetness and a strong coconut current in the finish. Middle picks up a cascara vibe mixed with a little cola mixed in, while the fade is an amalgam of sweet and a mild roasted bitterness. Enjoyable, but not an improvement on the original.

Top-notch porter, roasted and layered, with a lovely caramel-chocolate center laced with smoke, espresso, cherry, and a hint of pine, finishing dark and bitter. Not Founders, but in the neighborhood.

Can from Bine & Vine. Pours clear, bright gold with a foamy white head. Aroma is dankish citrus. Med body. Flavor is on the edge of dank. Mostly citrus, but some mixed fruits. I pick passion fruit and peach. It's getting quite dry, and it's also getting quite bitter. So it's getting to be really good stuff!

Curious idea, not entirely sure it makes for a good beer, but at least it's interesting. Moderate citrus-tropical IPA notes offer grapefruit, berry, and melon, with mineral-floral bitterness on the back end offset by a slightly dry cider tartness married with a slightly medicinal fade. No doubt about the cider in the finish, but I'm doubting cider-IPA hybrids will be the next stupid craft beer fad.

Can from Bine & Vine. Pours orange tinged gold with a moderate white head. Aroma of apple and hops that I can't parse. Med body. Flavor is rather dry. It's hop bitter. Apples and something that might be floral hop. Decent drink.

Taster at Rose's in Old Town San Diego. Pours black, with a medium, foamy, tan head. The aroma is mild coffee, dark chocolate, and walnuts. Sweet and malty, with a touch of bitterness. Heavy body, with a sharp, creamy palate. Solid, simple porter.
