Description
Big tide Brewing Company, Saint John's only brew pub and restaurant, began brewing our hand-crafted, all-natural ales and lagers at our 47 Princess Street location in August of 2009. Since then, we have gained a reputation for offering high quality beer accompanied by food that reflects the flavours of our brews.

Can from the brewery. Pours a expected tawny-red. Solid nose of toasted malts, with a little syrup. Taste is mildly bitter toasted malts, a little thin, some sweetness under.... and that's about it. Not stellar.

Can from brewery. Pours clear light blond. Taste is very clean sunny malt, some light hoppy bitterness, fairly dry. Pretty straightforward but not bad.

Can from the brewery. Pours as a porter should but not much head. Toasted malts, chocolate sweet noted. Sweet malt, with chocolate, vanilla that sarsaparilla coming through. The finish is sweet, with bitterness and vanilla showing up late. Interesting, a little sweet for me but that checks with the root beer aim here. Interesting and for a spice beer not too badly done.

Can from the brewery. Pours with fluffy white head, some cloudy golden, a little less cloudy than I expected. You smell that mango with some pine. Taste is sweet cereal malt overlayed with hop burn, lesser resin, and pine with the mango present in the background. The hops has a long biting burn in the aftertaste too. Too much hop burn here.

Aroma: The nose is has some yeasty notes, a bit of malts, and some hints of fruit
Appearance: It pours a cloudy golden color with an off-white head
Flavor: The taste is lightly sweet, some yeasty flavor, and almost no bitterness
Palate: The body is on the lighter side, but it has an alright mouthfeel to it
Overall Impression: This beer was pretty unexciting. I enjoy a decent cream ale on occasion, but that was barely a decent a cream ale. Eh...

Aroma: The nose of this one is dull malts and mild hops, not too much here really
Appearance: The pour is light gold in color, not too much in the way of head or lace
Flavor: The taste is much the same, nothing bad, just not too much going on
Palate: The body is light and a little watery, the mouthfeel is fine, but nothing special
Overall Impression: This beer is unoffensive and unexciting. There's nothing wrong with it, but overall, I just found it dull.

Aroma: The aroma is on the sweet side, with caramel, some bread, fruit, and earth
Appearance: It pours a light reddish color with a small beige head and some lace as well
Flavor: The taste is medium sweet, lots of malts, with a mild hop bitterness as well
Palate: The body is light medium, it has a decent, though mildly watery feel, and a soft finish
Overall Impression: This was an alright one, but it just wasn't quite where I wanted it to be in this style. Also, the wateriness detracted a bit.

Aroma: The nose is malty and light, with some yeast notes and grassy hops
Appearance: This one pours a light gold color with a small white head
Flavor: The taste is light-medium sweet with a clean maltiness and some grassy hop bitterness
Palate: The body is fairly light and it has a clean, drinkable mouthfeel
Overall Impression: I thought that this one was an alright Kolsch. It is a little on the dull side, but it isn’t a bad beer. It was a very very hot day by Saint John standards, so this beer probably worked better than it would have otherwise.

Aroma: The nose is simple and on-style, some caramel malts and some grassy hops
Appearance: It has a clear amber-orange pour with a smallish head on it
Flavor: The taste is light sweet and fairly light bitter as well, it is balanced and unexciting
Palate: The body is light-medium and it has a decent mouthfeel to it
Overall Impression: This was a fairly standard brewpub IPA. It isn't a knock out and it isn't a bad IPA either. Honestly, it is hardly memorable.
