Description
Hugel is the brewing company name of Koen Hugelier. After training in pharmaceutical and biological techniques and medical laboratory technology, Koen Hugelier worked for almost ten years at Ghent University on various scientific studies. In 2009 he became a certified zythologist and in this way got hold of the brewing bug. Because Hugelier could use a lot of knowledge from his training, it was quite easy to delve into the secrets of brewing. After some hobby brewing, Koen Hugelier was ready in 2010 to brew one of his beers in a 'big' brewery.

Brouwfirma Hugel brouwt biologische, artisanale bieren in brouwerij 'The Brew Society' in Heule.

Bottle. Not a gusher! Clear brown, looks like coca-cola. Aroma of moderately spiced caramel. Taste is Christmas fruitcake.

1/III/2012 - 75cl botle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ Klaas' place - BB:25/II/14 (2012-173)

Clear red brown beer, small fizzy beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: overripe banana, sweet, star anise, liquorish, other spices, caramel, mocha. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: rotten fruits, banana, citrus, butter scotch (diacetyl?), caramel, roasted malts, bit sugary. Aftertaste: mocha, roasted malts, certain bitterness. Not exciting, way to expensive. I'm prepared to pay 10 euro for a bottle, but then it had better be good. The only deadly sin I feel now is wrath, for being ripped off. IRA!!!

Small to medium, cream to tan head over reddish-mahogany beer. Perfumed wood, liquorice, marzipan or frangipane; generally sweet & spiced aroma’s. Sweet, perfumed, more marzipan - if with a bitterish, woody streak. Some meaty, yeasty esters as well, and hints at fusels, and alcohol-filled chocolates. Well-bodied, very slick. Feels more carbonated than it looks; very slight alcoholwarming. Certainly decent beer... but.. whatever, this beer doesn’t even remotely remind me of sex. Maybe I ought to experiment more with sex, than with beer?

Huge, very dense & lacy stable cream head over dark foxy-brown beer. Very spicy nose, especially clove/allspice in evidence, but also coriander. Maltsyrup aroma. Sweet-spicy, clove, cinnamon, mint, brown candi sugar, treacle,... Sticky, syrupy, alcoholwarming. Despite that last, it is rather dangerous seen its treacherous drinkability. Not bad, but overspiced, and way too sweet for my taste.
