Description

Sampled @ Gents Bierfestival 2014. 750 ml. bottle. Small, rocky, off-white head, lightly cloudy red brown amber. Very sweet nose, coca-cola, brown sugar, sweet wood, thick liquorish, leaves,… Very sweet taste, thick liquorish, caramel, brown sugar, leaves, cloves, allspice, very sweet apples,… Thick malty body. Above average but not by much & Kraddel’s claim that this was the best beer of the festival is really bizarre.

Thick-set cream head, slowly collapsing over slightly veiled darker red-amber beer, medium carbonation. Vinous, alcoholic nose, dark malts, herbs and green leaves; dark candi sugar. Sweet-bitterish; melanoidin/dark malts jumble, gingerbread. Bit yeasty. Again brown candi sugar impression. Quite spritzy MF, medium bodied. Bit mushy feel, probably the oats. Thirteen-in-a-dozen feel, but nowhere wrong. More in the Walloon tradition, than as a Westmalle dubbel f.i.

75 cl. bottle split by 2 @ Den Turk in Gent. BBF 23/01/2015. Lightly hazy golden with a white head. Nose is slightly hoppy, zesty with some lemon & sugary sweet. Taste is sweet lemon, yeasty, coriander, light lemon lemonade, sweet & touch bitter in the back herbs, very sugary, light soap. Touch higher carb. It is not bad but it is almost criminally boring & overprized.
