Description
The Obergärige Hausbrauerei Uerige (top-fermented craft brewery) is not a museum, but an exceedingly modern food business where a craft rich in centuries of tradition is carried out. It goes without saying that the Reinheitsgebot, or Purity Law dating from 1516, is still adhered to, because its results are good and lasting, relying, as it does, on nature as one of its main factors. Which is exactly what we do, too: our yummy droplet is made of nothing but water, barley, wheat malt, and our Uerige yeast.

Bottle. Deep copper liquid with small deep off-white head. Aroma of raw sugar, bread, biscuit, caramel, toast, nuts, toffee and dried fruit. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with notes of toffee, raw sugar, caramel and bread. Medium to full bodied with low carbonation. Really nice, like a barley wine.

Bottle poured into a kolsch glass. Pours a dark brown with a bit of a ruby hue and a half finger of light khaki head. Aroma of caramel, molasses, dark fermented fruits, raisins and some spicy hopiness. Taste is light sweet. Molasses, caramel, candi sugar, dark fruits, plum, and a bit of spicy, herbal hop bitterness. Full bodied with a sticky texture. Soft carbonation and a super long finish. Overall, awesome. Super long, surprisingly bitter and surprisingly boozy finish.

on tap at the brewery. The beer starts malty, nice hop aromas appear to the middle part, a great combination of floral hops with the malty Alt-character. The aftertaste is long, roasted malt, bittering hops and still floral hop notes together with the full bodied Alt-taste! Also slightly sweetish-fruity
--> A great brew! 14/13/13/14

Bottle from Uerige @ Carsh-Haus, Düsseldorf; bottled 06.08 (I guess that means 2 months ago, 6th June 2013), bb 06.12
Hazy brown color with medium sized creamy head. Vulgar aroma, dirty water, dark malts, puke. Smooth mouthfeel; dry caramel flavor, some yeast flavor too; ordinary bitterness.
A dirty beer, losing all the elegance and freshness of a good Alt.

Bottle from McTapps - thank you, thank you, thank you, Sabine! :-) Opens with a real PLOP, much better than anything of the kind I’ve heard. Pours cloudy dark amber with stable, creamy beige head. Dark aroma of fruit, malt and caramel with a subtle dusty touch. Dusty and hoppy onset, gradually giving way to a perfect syphony of caramel malt and fruit, beautifully accompanied by roasty overtones. Bitter and slightly roasty finish. Perfect. I just adore it.

Bottle at the brewery. Dark gold, cloudy, with a low, fine head. Faint nose, fruity, citrus, wheat, lemon. Lemony, bready flavor. Typical of this area, I guess. This is just ok, though, a bit thin and boring.
