Description
Põhjala Brewery is the brainchild of three friends and beer aficionados who, like many a future craft brewer, got tired of the tasteless watery lagers that the faceless megacorporations have saturated the beer market with.

We brew small batches of hand crafted ales, using the best malts, loads of mostly New World hops and a relentless passion for good beer. When creating our beers, we are inspired by Nordic nature, Estonian new cuisine and the work of our fellow microbrewers in the U.S., UK and Scandinavia who, in our opinion, are leading the craft beer revolution.

In hops we trust!

330ml bottle from AshtonMcCobb - cheers Ash! Pours clear pale gold, thin white head. Big hop aromas, all grapefruit and resin. Taste is really resiny bitter too, slightly sweaty, in a good way. Oily texture, but thin body, and a bitter finish. Pleasantly surprised. If someone gave you this as a Californian Wheat Ale, you’d agree.

33cl bottle thanks to Pohjala brewer, Chris. Appearance - brown to opaque black with a lovely fluffy head. Nose - lemon and elderflower. Taste - a lovely lime note with a gentle toffee note in the background. 7 Palate - medium bodied with a tangy texture and a long dry finish. 4 Overall - not the expected spicy rye note. Good though. 14

(Bottle, 0.33 l - batch 007 - BB 30.11.2014, courtesy of FatPhil, 20140715) The beer poured clear and almost black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had fruitiness, burnt malts and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, spruce tips, burnt malts, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste had spruce tips, hops, burnt malts and bitterness. A tasty and good Black IPA. I usually dislike the style but the spruce sprouts here helped a lot.

0,33L bottle, BB 27.12.2014, batch 010. Shared by suurjuust, thanks!. Pours dark brown-black with brownish head. The head stays for a moment. Aroma is roast, sour, coffee, and some alcohol. Taste is sweet, sour and bitter, roast, coffee, dark chocolate, and lactose. Finish is long dark chocolate bitter with hints of smoke. Overall: nice brew. Have had some sh*tty bottles over the time, but the last one I had a couple of days ago was really great. Bumping overall by +2.
