Description

Bottle at Ma Che, Roma on my stag - 22/06/13. Half of this went on the floor unfortunately when the Aussie kicker missed that easy conversion in the dying seconds of the firs Lions test - shame but ultimately worth it! Dark amber/brown with a thin white head that escapes to the edge. Nose is funky, woody, soured fruits, grape skins, must, grandads shed. Taste comprises soured berries, oaky tinge, tarte fruit, must, damp wood, red wine notes evident, grapes, light booze. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation. Great sour - from the top draw!

Draught Good cream-tan head over very deep-brown, ruby-shot, nearly black beer. Strong USA hops’ nose, piney, resiny, citruszeste on faintly roasted grains. Good balance between the roastiness of the malts and the aromatic bitterness of the hops. Blending, not clashing. Medium bodied at least, slick. Long roasted/burnt aftertaste. Interesting - but if I understand the Italian notion about the name, I’m glad I didn’t learn more.

Draught Huge and very white head with textbook lace; hazy yellow-orangeish beer with a faint green sheen. USA hops, hopoils, citrus, green or unripe, but very aromatic fruit. Bitter, very hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, grapefruit peel. Retronasal a hint at fruity sweetness. Medium bodied, quite slick, even a bit oily. Very good - indeed superb for a summer ale.

Draft @ Moeder Lambic Italian Beerfest ’13.
