Description
In 1992, Paul Theakston took a daring leap into the unknown. As a fifth generation brewer of his family company, he chose to leave T&R Theakstons following its sale to a national brewery. Instead, he chose to champion independent brewing in Yorkshire and built his own brewery in the very same town, Masham. The brewhouse contains a mixture of tradition and innovation, using the Yorkshire Square Fermentation system which we hold dearly. Our original brewhouse was built from reclaimed equipment which we still use to this day.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from HOTM. Pours clear, red-brown with a small, foamy tan head. Light-medium sweet flavour with notes of toasted bread, some whole grains, a little earth, leaf, dried berries. Light bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with more dry, toasted malts, earth, a little English yeast, hint of dry toffee. Tasty stuff overall.

Cask at the Fox & Hounds, Sloane Square on 23rd March 2024. Clear amber with shallow, dull foam and spot lacing. Caramel malt and leafy hops in aroma. Nutty malts, zesty peels and sweet, ripe fruits in-mouth, and a finish of fruitiness, caramel and a return of leafy hoppiness. Light bodied with a smooth mouthfeel.

500 ml bottle, from Birk Bryggeriutsalg, Klepp. ABV is 4.0%. Clear golden colour, moderate white head. Aroma of citric and herbal hops, malts and grain too. The flavour is also citric and herbal, on a sufficient malt base. Bitter aftertaste. Not bad for 4.0% beer.
