Well after much research the bottle i had in the kulminator which they stated as 1981 Kings ale, seems most likly to be Bass number 1 bottled into the old Kings ale bottle from 1977. Red/light brown in colour, ovaltine malt nose with a little fruit. mellow oh so mellow soft and gentle fruit malt, very juicy very fruity, and oh so smooth and drinkable. the depth and smoothness of this was remarkable. And no way would i guess the alchohol levelfrom this. Wonderful ... Mini Cask at home ... Huge thanks to the Brewer for making this possible Deep scarlet brown ... Sweet rich toffee vine fruits nose ... Sweet toffee rich and deep ... lots of vine fruits ... little warmin ... wondefull mouthfeel ... Wonder if i should hand bottle this to see how it ages over 5 years ... Its lovely ...maybe not as complex as the Aged bottle but still worthy of a 4.5+ score. hand bottle at home ... deep brown .. thin tan lacing ... soft sweet toffee ... massive raisins ... soft fruit nose ... juict swet toffee fruit ... soft fruit ... ligtj alcohol ... dry roast ... very very bitter ... long dry raisiun fruit ... and a little cardboard .. soft fruit ... 3.8 Princess ale 1978 ...bottle at siren 2nd birthday .... copper ... soft wine ... soft toffee .... light blackcurrent ... juicy sweet malts ... big toffee ... ligth cardboardd ... big alcohol ... nicre sweet fruit malts ... interesting ... bit long wine tones 3.7

Cask @ Market Porter, Borough. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Malty fruity hoppy aroma. Sweet malty flavor with some grassy hints. Has a sweetish malty finish.

Bottle at Kulminator as Bass King’s Ale. I thought it was from 1989, but seeing the other ratings, it might have been 1981. Quite vinous aroma, citric fruit, and mango? Almost clear brown colour, very small head. Sweet, oxidized flavour, quite a lot of cardboard. Very late dried fruit aftertaste. I just do not like old beer.

Vintage 1981, 23 years old, bottled by Bass - Mechelen, 8% ABV; had it on 2004-06-05 at Kulminator
Dark amber color, brown hue, small frothy head, but peristent. Mature malty aroma, caramel, cookies, Christmas spices. Quite flat; ripe malt, drinkable but too old; Madeira; sweet (not syrupy). Strange experience.
I don’t think it’s fair to put together the ratings of the fresh beer and the old bottles…

Cask handpull at White Horse, Parson’s Green. So I was drinking a bit of history. Hazy ruby colour with disappearing beige head. Classic barley wine. Dark fruits in mouth bit of coffee/choc. Dry malt develops in mouth. Wonderful powdery dry malt. Very raisiny aroma. Was it worth the £14 train fare and half an hour on a packed tube train? You betcha! Very very rich raisiny coffee develops. Tart finish that is really quite sharp.

Cask Near black, red-brown at the edges; no head. Leather, shoepolish, woodstainer. No doubt - there’s traces of acetic here! Woodaroma, tannines, even in the nose. Wry-bitter (great deal of noble hops) but with a convincing dark and other malts underbuild. Quite vinous, old oak, and very overt liquorice. Very full bodied, oily-slick, leaving a sticky feeling after swallowing. Bitterish aftertaste, resiny. NIce, if very severe, and a difficult one to drink in the way of festivals.

Bottled (As King’s Ale, thanks goes to GarethYoung for this one!). Murky dark brown colour, not much head. Aroma is oak barrel, alcohol, plum and a lot of dark fruits. Flavour is very wineous mixed with strong oak barrell. Totally lovely. The aftertaste has dark fruits, alcohol and roast in it. Just lovely in my opinion. I like Madeira wines, and this one was actually quite close to one, flavour and aromawise. It was however quite acidic and vinegarish also...Which cuts the points down a bit.

(Bottle 27,5 cl) Comes as "Czars P2 Imperial Stout". Pours a clear, reddish mahogany with a small, off-white head. Vinous, lightly tart aroma. Only medium body with malty, vinous accents and plenty of dried fruits. Discreet bitterness. Thanks to kook for this yummy brew. 240706
