Description
During the dawn of micro-brewing in the Bay Area Roger Lind started Lind Brewing Company, which would later become Drake's Brewing. Lind was a brewer at Triple Rock in Berkeley, one of the first brewpubs in America, and set off on his own to brew draft-only English-style ales. In 1998 Roger Lind sold the brewery to a local coffee company, which continued to brew Drake's beer. A new era started in 2008 John Martin and Roy Kirkorian, purchased the brewery. Over the ensuing 10 years, they've expanded brewing capacity, distribution, and started producing West Coast style ales using an abundance of high quality hops and malt. A new 60-barrel brewhouse and fermentation tanks to match, boosted our brewing capacity, ensuring more people could find and enjoy Drake's beer was opened in 2016.

Golden-brown colour. Slight haze, no head and no visible carbonation. Big malty aroma with fruity notes...hey this strong and I’ll let it slide a bit. Fair bit of bourbon nose as well. Big. Just big. Soft body with hints of maple, oak, bourbon, and rich malts. Warming and smooth, if a bit hot in the finish.

Hazy blood-orange body, quite unusual and dramatic, with a medium/thin off-white head. Heavy hops nose with sugared grapefruit rind, toast, and burnt caramels. Nice toasty, bready body with moderate-strong grapefruit and pine hops, but nothing overpowering or offensive. Lingering bitter rindy aftertaste. A full-bodied and tasty treat that would pass as an I2PA for many brewers. Many thanks, fordest!

This beer was brewed again based on the recipe for the 1990 Jolly Rodger so this rating is from a fresh (not aged) batch. Draft. Amber-red color with a slight beige head. Low malty aroma. Smooth malty flavor with some earthiness and just enough hops to balance. Hides alcohol well. Nice but unspectacular.

Reddish amber ale with a light moka head. Nice caramel malt aroma with discreet hops and cinnamon notes. Crisp nutty malt in mouth with lactic notes. Lighter bodied. Overall, a bit plain. Russian River Beer Revival & Barbecue Cook-Off, August 20, 2005.

A pitch black beer with a small brown head. The aroma is of over ripe fruit combined with wood, while the flavor is extremely woody combined with sour grapes and prunes. Nice.

Draft. Rich copper-amber beer with a nice off-white head. Huge peach/hop aroma - very fruity. Peach and caramel flavor - appricot, mango, cherry, tobacco. Very drinkable - way too drinkable. Hides alcohol very well. Was told is was a triple IPA. This is better than the standard Denogginizer (which is saying a lot). Just amazing. Please brew this again.

Draft. Amber-ruby-brown beer with a creamy white head. Refreshing big hop aroma - citrus/peach. Hop flavors come through - fruity with a bit of resin. Low malt profile, but there’s some typical Drakes malts (slightly roasty, chocolate).

Draft. Rich ruby-amber beer with no head. Big fruity aroma (berry) with some malt. Berry (cherry/strawberry) flavor with malts and some alcohol. Rich and delicious. Easy to drink, full bodied. There’s a lot going on and this shows a lot of depth and complexity.
