Draught@EBF2008. Pitch black colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is smoke, malts, tar, licorice and vanilla. Also some slight wooden notes as well as some dark dried fruits. Also a sting of alcohol as it warms up. Flavour is roasted malts, smoked wood, alcohol, vanilla and some slight fruityness too. All in a very nice balance. Got even better the more it warmed up. Probably my favourite beer of the festival, so I drank loads of it....

(Draught@EBF). Pitch black, small tan head. Smoke and tar in the nose. Full-bodied. Loads of tar, smoke, licorice and some sweetness. Very balanced slow-drinking beer to people who love smoked and tarry brews. This needs to be close to room temperature to optimize smoke overdose. Sampled this also at brewpub, there head was bigger, flavorwise same. Congrats Mika, world class brew.

Medium brown head. Opaque black body, dark reddish brown at edges. Burnt grainy coffee aroma with earthy notes. Dry-sweet intense smoky burnt charcoal taste with faintly acidic pumpernickel notes. Delicate. Dry-acidic burnt smoky aftertaste. Very nice. (0.1l taster draft at EBF ’08.)

Draught at European Beer Festival, Copenhagen. Transparently black, minimal head. Smokey tarry nose. Densely malty, a bit slimmer than expected with fairly clean mouthfeel. Streamlined but with interesting flavor combinations of bacon, tar and licorice. A beer with attitude.

From tap. Pours pitch black with a lacing chocolate brown head. Mild smoked and chocolate malty aroma. Flavour starts chocolate malty yet quickly turn into a more solid smoked base flavour. Lingering hard roasted malty and chocolate finish with a nice smoke note into the far finish.

Draught Beige, persistent head; black beer. Lightly smoked, very "thick" nose, bits of restsugars; pipetobacco and some chocolate. Very creamy-smooth with again just a light touch of smokiness. Toasted, slightly burnt cookies. Extremely smooth, nearly liquid velvet. And some body... Impressive, especially on the palate.

Inspiration for the name is (of course) Mikkeller Black Hole. Murky dark brown color, small off-white head. Light fruity yeasty, almost banana-like nose. Starts a bit yeasty with malty edge then nice fresh bitterness which lingers in the aftertaste. Kind of light crossover of brown ale and bitter. This was at its best when sampled fresh, after one week hops were more harsh and beer tasted more cold coffeish, which reduced drinkability.
