On tap at the Montreal brewpub, as Brune. It pours an almost clear body, auburn color, topped by a finger-thick beige head. The aroma is lightly roasted, with some coffee, nuts and bread. There’s a nice bitterness in the flavor, as well as the roasted malts, bread, nuts and caramel known from the aroma. Some sweetness, but it ain’t really sweet. Full body, soft carbonation and a lasting finish. Tasteful and almost refreshing this one. 150612

On tap at the brewpub in Montreal, Canada. As Blanche. It’s a hazy, whiteish-yellow beer with a dense, finger-thick off-white colored head. The aroma has citrus and a spiced touch, coriander mostly, but also a generic touch of spices, as well as some banana. No banana in the flavor, but there’s some bitterness and grass instead. Citrus zest, coriander and some pale malts. Dry, medium to full-bodied and with a nice co2 level. A decent one indeed, but rather boring anyway. 150612

Draught at Reims brewpub, 4/22/15
Mostly clear blonde ale is topped by a small but well-retained white head.
Yeast in the nose seems to be the most dominant aspect here, with, perhaps the malt being close behind. Crayons, very soft fruitiness (yeast) and a bit of dry hay (hops). If you don’t consider the sort of crayon-like waxiness a flaw, it’s pretty clean and uneventful/inoffensive. No alcohol noted.
Large bubbled, mostly watery texture/carbonation inserts the lightly sweet, honey and hay flavors in to your stomach and before I could really make much note, it was over. Yeast gives a little more character than your typical ultra clean american golden ale. It’s quite fruity. Don’t know why the hops are so minimal (I mean, I do know why, but...). Fine enough, and they have sculpted a beer very much to the audience they were looking to appeal to....Couldnt bring myself to stay for a second beer for fear of it putting me to sleep.

From tap at Les 3 Brasseurs Lille 14.02.15. Pale copper. Diminishing off-white head. Not much aroma. Refreshing taste, with brittle, malt, berries and a hint of liquorice. Moderate bitterness in aftertaste.

Waiting on a train in Lille I tried 4 tasters. This was was advertised as Brune, and it was certainly not a stout. Nice clear deep dark brown color. Light beige head. Aroma’s: caramel, dark malts, with roast, drop/licorice, and caramel/sweetness retronasal. Flavor is moderate sweet, light roasted. Light bodied. Finishes somewhat roasted, droppig, light bitter. Like everything I tried here not spectacular, but decent.

Waiting on a train in Lille I tried 4 tasters. Pale blonde color, hazy. White head. Aroma’s: candy sugar, fruit. Retronasal there’s fruit upfront, with some caramel and citrus. Flavor is moderate sweet, grain/malt. Light bodied. A bit grainish finish, ever so slightly bitter. Like everything I tried here not spectacular, but decent.
