Description
Manos Nazlidis, originally from Piraeus, created the Chios Beer microbrewery in Kampos, on the island of Chios, in 2010. In 2012, he began producing and bottling Fresh Chios Beer, an innovative newcomer on the market. It is always bottled unfiltered and unpasteurised to retain all the flavour and character of a true beer.

Bottle shared thanks to Deanso. Pours very dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma is massive roasty, dark chocolate, coffee, malt. Flavour is over moderate sweet and light heavy bitter. The smoke comes out in the palate fairly softly with toffee and fudge. Fairly thick mouthfeel. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Nice one!

Sampled from a 0.355l bottle @ RBNG 2014. In the glass this has a deep and dark brown appearance. A little sidesticking brown top is also present, but it's fading quote quickly. Roasted nose, lots of cocoa powder, a little wood, coffee and a fair amount of chocolate. Sweet milky chocolate. Tastes nice at first then it turns a bit grainy and old coffee acidic- ish. Like it's a really old bottle or something. Sun damaged chocolate and cold coffee. It has a oily feeling in the mouth and it's about average on the bubbles. Bitter and a tad harsh. There is also more cocoa in the taste, along with something that reminds me of smoked acidic chocolate milk. Not something I need to drink loads of, but it has some good qualities also. 15.02.2014

Bottle, 33cl, at RBNG-14 Grand Tasting. A dark brown beer topped by a small, dark beige head. Roasted, malty aroma with coffee and some dark chocolate. Some malty sourness, of the roasted kind. Roasted flavor with chocolate and coffee. Full body and a pleasant carbonation level. Sort of sweetish. Lasting finish with roasted malts and coffee. A pleasant one, mostly on the malty, roasted kind, and there’s also some malty sourness and some fruityness to support it. Nice. 140215
