3-5 Heathfield Industrial Estate, Heathfield Street, Elland, HX5 9AE, England
Description
Founded as ‘Eastwood and Sanders Fine Ales’ in 2002, after the amalgamation of The West Yorkshire Brewery and The Barge and Barrel Brewing Company, we renamed as Elland Brewery in 2006 and have been trading under that banner ever since.
We are proud to be a proper, independent, traditional micro-brewery. We’re a small team (currently ten and a half people!) and we’re involved in every aspect of running a busy brewery, we all get our hands dirty helping out in racking, delivering, filling the vans, cleaning, loading the spent grain for our local farmer Dickie to feed his cattle…you’d be surprised at what a normal day involves!

Bottled. Black, nearly opaque, no head. Tarry nose with a dash of blood. Dryish woith solid body. So roasty it turns resiny with metallic edges. Some plums and salt. Like listening to your favourite somg played through a distorted amplifier.

Cask gravity dispense at Red Lion, Isleworth. Virtually black in colour with beige head. Really chewy, tarry. Lots of tarry malt, coffee, dark choc. The finish really makes you have to take a breath. Bit of wood in there? Even a bit smokey. It coats the gums like a good red wine

[Cask at Volunteers Arms, GBBF 2005] A red-brown beer with no head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of caramel, but also notes of roasted malt. The flavor is dry roasted, combined with light notes of chocolate.

[Cask at Volunteers Arms, GBBF 2005] A hazy orange beer with a lazing white head. The aroam is sweet with light notes of hops - quite boring. But the flavor has strong notes of hops and malt with a dry dusty end - which makes me guess at Goldings hops. I think this is a bitter not a mild.

Cask at GBBF 2005 Dark brown. Tar and chewy malt on nose, liquorice, burnt malt in mouth. Very tarry with a thick finish. Re-rate. Cask handpull at Ship & Mitre, Liverpool. Wonderful beer. Black beer, thin dark beige head. Deep flavours, incredible aroma of dark malts, charcoal and some dark fruit. Full and velvety in mouth if a tad sour with long finish. Excellent beer . Some sour dark plum/damson fruit

Cask conditioned at NERAX 4/27/2005
Light golden-yellow colored bitter, quite clear, though a slight sheen to it. Moderate white head is fairly well retained. Aroma of herbal, citrusy hops, like orange tea, some notes of fruit. Starts out very hoppy, lemony, with a crisp finish. Light and fruity but not low in flavor. Medium-light body, no wateriness. Citrus lingers.
