Bottled. Amber colour, airy head. Orangey nose. Sweet with clean mouthfeel and medium body. There’s notes of sulphur and apple followed by a harsh, grassy bitter finish. Simplistic.

Thanks to Shadey for this! I think this stretches the APA style a bit, but here’s my take on it anyway. Pours a hazy light orange color with a diminished head which produces a light lacing. Big fruity aroma that brings to mind bubblegum and candy ’Circus Peanuts’. The flavor is sweet in the beginning and finishes slightly dry. The body is a bit light, but overall a decent drinker.

Hazy light amber body with suspended particulate matter; thin abundantly lacing light cream head. Aroma mostly of grapefruit rind and touches of pine. Creamy, biscuity body with an interesting earthy yeast component as well as a fairly strong hops presence (grapefruit rind, pine). Nothing too unique in the malt bill or hops varieties, but the yeasty element adds some character.

On tap at the Syracuse Holiday Brewfest Dec.04 2004. Phin and Matts. Golden ale with a nice floral hops aroma. Good malt, light lactic notes, and restrained floral hops. Medium bodied, with a very short mouthstay. Good stuff.

I wasn’t too sure what I had purchased. A true mild Ale is very hard to find in the U.S. and the better examples I had had were all homebrews. This pours a clear medium amber body with a foamy white head. The aroma is malty with a mild hop backing. The flavor is nutty malt sweetness that rounds out nicely with just a touch of hops. Very smooth and drinkable. Flavorful, medium bodied and somewhat filling. A malted milk ball in a glass.

This brewer is growing on me. I had this beer when it first came out but had not had a chance to get back and rate it until now. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle the beer poured a hazy copper-bronze color with a small tan head. The aroma was strong and had lots of flowery hops. The flavor was mildly sweet, had some light malt and was mostly dominated by strong flowery and grapefruity hops. The hops really coat the tongue and linger on the aftertaste. Very Nice.

April 2004. Light yellow ale with a lemon pie aroma. Light IPA with restrained hops and lemons. Not bad. A summer IPA.

Clear golden coloured body with some orange highlights. Frothy off-white head. Aroma of pure cascade hops, citrus (grapefruit) and some wheat. Light-bodied; Astringent carbonation with very little taste, but with some pungent hops and little else. Bland, but decent. Aftertaste mild-not showing anything at all! Overall, a decent summer...a lot less than expected from a usually good brewery. This marks the first beer from Southern Tier that I don’t ’like’. I sampled this 12 ounce bottle purchased from Beers of the World in Rochester, New York on 29-May-2004 at the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

When southern tier started they specialized in traditional ales. While this was a fine example of the style it is a beer that I do not miss overly and I am happy with the newer focus of the brewer. +++Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a medium amber color with a large creamy tan head. The aroma was sweet and malty. The flavor was sweet an malty with a bit of toasted malt and nut on the finish. A decently drinkable brew but nothing to seek out. Decent.

I do not know why they do not make this one more as it was an excellent example of a wonderful style. +++Draft - the beer poured completely black. Raising the glass to the light did not enable any light to shine through. There was a moderately sized dark brown creamy head that really lingered for a long time. The aroma was sharp and sour with strong hops and a hint of chocolate. This translated well into the flavor which was strongly hoppy and had a decent chocolate and coffee presence. The large malt elements balances the beer well on the front but the finish is completely dominated by the hops. The texture is thick and amazingly creamy. Like drinking liquid silk. I really wish they would make this one again. Marvelous!
