Description
It all started in 1986. Sure, many things have changed since the early days of Harpoon, but much has stayed the same. We still love brewing beer and enjoying it with friends.

In July 2014, Harpoon became an employee owned company, with 48% of the company given to employees through the establishment of an ESOP. An E-what? ESOP stands for Employee Stock Ownership Plan. It is a mechanism by which a company contributes to its employees’ retirement by allocating shares to them which it repurchases…..yadda, yadda, yadda… Here’s what it means: we are employee owned, we are an independent craft brewer, and you bet we’re damn proud of it.

In 2024, Harpoon and Smuttynose merged, forming Barrel One Collective.

Can from Systembolaget. Cheese and fruit. A pretty decent boozy ipa. Does the job nicely.

Slightly hazy gold with a large foamy head that lingers. Tangy and sweet with an off cardboard note followed by faint tropical fruit and a bit of medicine. Medium finish. Medium body.

Can from Systembolaget. A classic little wit from stateside. Aroma is quite nondescript sweet. Appples. Flat gold look. Taste is quite traditioanl wit. Orange, corriander, bannana. Missing some butt. Refreshing and easy going, no faults to it at all but could do with some back.

12 oz. can from HEB in Boerne, TX. Pours an opaque black color with dark mahogany highlights and with a thick tan head and great retention. Good lacing too. Roasted dark malt aroma. The flavor matches the aroma. Dark roasted malt flavor a hint of dark coffee in the finish. Not nearly as coffee-dominant as I was expecting. More porter flavor than coffee. Low carbonation and low bitterness. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Well done and enjoyable.

Can sourced from Beer Republic and drunk at home - hazy yellow with a white head. Citrus fruity aroma and taste, vague notes of grapefruit and tangerine, maybe some light peachy accents, sweet pale malty backing with a medium to light body, piny light bitter hoppy close. Ok, just abit basic.

Pours gold, big head. Aroma of herbal grass notes. Taste has grassy malt, some lingering hop oils. Palate has some pine, pretty plain otherwise. Good, light.
