Description
De Kromme Haring is all about surprising, well-made, delicious and drinkable beers.

Biologist and homebrewer Stephen Grigg travelled from America via the UK to settle in the Netherlands as (homebrewery) De Kromme Haring. After meeting beer-afficionado Gijs van Wiechen, who invited him to brew the anniversary beer for infamous bar-dive Kafe Belgie, the two decided to "go pro" in 2014.

After the first tentative, educational and sometimes frustrating steps in contractbrewing they quickly decided that they needed their own system and place to pursue their aproach to brewing. This cunning plan came to fruition when they opened their very own brewpub in september 2016, with the brewery installed in december 2016.

With over 20 years of brewing experience, we have cultivated a deep love for English malts and American hops. However, we love yeast even more and believe that the quality of fermentation is at the core of all well-made beer. Knowing how to work with many different kinds of yeast, both "clean" and "wild", is what sets us apart.

Our brewery and yeast lab allows us to experiment with lesser known and used yeast strains in our brewery. Part of our brewery is even dedicated to stainless steel fermenting with wild yeasts like Brettanomyces and/or blended cultures, creating surprising and delicious flavours.

Draft at the brewpub @ Beer Geeks meetup. Hazy amber color. Off white head with reasonable retention. Aroma’s of caramel, hops, light resin. Retronasal there’s rye bread, caramel malts, some fruit, hops. Flavor is moderate bitter with light malty sweetness. Light bodied. Finishes light roasted, moderate bitter. Nice.

Can at home, 10th June 17. Like the can and the reference in the bottom ’the only thing we fear is shitty beer’. Whilst it’s not shitty, it’s not great either. Pours dark amber, aroma is malt, caramel, light fruit. Taste is malty, some sweetness, not so much bitter hops. OK.

Can from Burg, BB 08/05/2018 (so about 4 wks old), 33 cl sample. Almost clear amber color, short crothy head. Aroma has citrussy hop and tropical fruit, some caramel and toffee, and some butterscotch and unrefined sugar note. Soft bitterness, quite some caramel malty body, hint of alcohol, bit butterscotch again. Guess they wanted more fruit in it, as it is more malt forward at the moment. Decent beer, but I doubt it was what they originally intended. --- Beer merged from original tick of Barbarian Fishing v1 on 14 Jul 2017 at 07:07 - Score: 7

Sampled thanks to tricksta_p. Hazy orange color, medium sized beige head. Smell malts, hops, not too special. Taste malts, hops, lightly diacetyl in the background, solid bitterness. Decent body and carbonation. Drinkable, but as an Imperial IPA: not good imo.
