Description
De Kromme Haring is all about surprising, well-made, delicious and drinkable beers.
Biologist and homebrewer Stephen Grigg travelled from America via the UK to settle in the Netherlands as (homebrewery) De Kromme Haring. After meeting beer-afficionado Gijs van Wiechen, who invited him to brew the anniversary beer for infamous bar-dive Kafe Belgie, the two decided to "go pro" in 2014.
After the first tentative, educational and sometimes frustrating steps in contractbrewing they quickly decided that they needed their own system and place to pursue their aproach to brewing. This cunning plan came to fruition when they opened their very own brewpub in september 2016, with the brewery installed in december 2016.
With over 20 years of brewing experience, we have cultivated a deep love for English malts and American hops. However, we love yeast even more and believe that the quality of fermentation is at the core of all well-made beer. Knowing how to work with many different kinds of yeast, both "clean" and "wild", is what sets us apart.
Our brewery and yeast lab allows us to experiment with lesser known and used yeast strains in our brewery. Part of our brewery is even dedicated to stainless steel fermenting with wild yeasts like Brettanomyces and/or blended cultures, creating surprising and delicious flavours.

On tap at Carnivale Brettanomyces ’16. At Arendsnest. Apparently there were 2 versions on the table, one called Multibrett, the other Multibrett Rhubarb. Not exactly sure if I rated them in the right order, but one would think the Rhubarb version is a bit darker than the other. Multibrett: Pale golden colour, white head. Aroma of battery acid, pepper, funk, lemons. Flavour is very sour, puckering, battery acid, peppery. Not very nice. 33327 = 1.8 Multibrett Rhubarb: Deep golden colour, white head. Aroma is funky, floral, citrus, light fruity, light peppery, some tropical fruit. Flavour is light to medium sweet, fruity, floral, lemon peel, funk, light tartness compared to the other version. Light bodied. This is nice. 737314

’Multibrett’ saison, tasted at Arendsnest. Light lacing, moussy, off-white head, straw blonde colour, hazy with greenish hue, almost looking like a witbier. Aroma of stewed rhubarb, moldy lemon, wet leather, unripe peach, bitter honey, strawberry vinegar, gooseberry, stale sweat. Crisp, refreshing fruitiness in the mouth, lots of kiwi-, pineapple- and gooseberry-like flavors, dryingly tart, rhubarb indeed in a very fruity way, softish carbo, soapy and bready wheat and barley base, drying finish, gingery spicy touch, earthy and mildly sour. Another fascinating new school Dutch craft brew - I sometimes wonder where they keep coming from...

Sourish, fruity and slightly funky taste of tropical fruits, ginger and some juniper, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, slightly tart finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Okay.

THANKS for sharing RB people! Sampled draft @ Arendsnest during Carnivale Brettanomyces 2016! Hazy orange/golden, little white head. Nose is weird milky rhubarb, elder flowers, vegetables, rotting apricot. Taste is weird milky, watery herbal, spoiled rhubarb, herbs,… Weird milky & oily. Rhubarb saves a bit, too dirty, spoiled tasting, milky, watery etc. for me.
