Description
Une Anneé, an Independent Craft Brewery, was born, in 2013, on the near west side of Chicago, with the quest of making fine Belgian inspired ales for all beer lovers. Founded by architect and Chicago native, Jerry Nelson, Une Anneé, has expanded it’s offerings over the years with an emphasis on fruited and unfruited American Wile Ales and Barrel Aged Stouts. In 2017, the brewery moved to neighboring Chicago suburb, Niles, IL and expanded to include a taproom. The working brewery in the background lends a hand to creating a laid back atmosphere where you can sit back and enjoy some of your favorite craft beers on tap.

Can to tulip.
Appearance: ruddy amber/violet color with no head and no lace
Aroma: great blend of mangoes and red raspberries, sweet and tart, slight grassy hoppiness underneath
Flavor: leans towards the tart and sour vibe of the blend of the mangoes and red raspberries; slight aftertaste of the mangoes and red raspberries
Texture: medium bodied, good sipper; tart/sour character is somewhat abrasive on the tongue - becoming astringent but as many know about me I do not like to use the word astringent until I entirely know a beer is; finishes with the red raspberry to mango tart and sour tones
Overall: another nicely done sour/wild ale I would very much like to have again.

Can to tulip.
Appearance: cardboard yellow haziness with a two finger white foamy head which slid off delicately to leave some light lace
Aroma: passion fruit sweet and tart character - bold and up front, subtle semi-sweet to tart grassy hops underneath
Flavor: yields to the sour to tart boldness of the passion fruit; quick aftertaste of passion fruit
Texture: light to medium bodied; good sipper; tartness does penetrate the tongue as expected; finishes briskly with the passion fruit
Overall: good sour/wild ale as it's basically a mostly all passion fruit ale.

Can to tulip.
Appearance: dark brown color with a slim cap of a little off-white foamy head which slid off delicately to barely leave any lace
Aroma: dark fruits, milk chocolate, woody spices, light banana, treacle, touch of vanilla wafer mixing it up with some earthy to semi-Belgian-like spices
Flavor: blends the prior mentioned aromas nicely to a semi-Belgian yeasty to dark fruity and chocolatey character; slight aftertaste of the Belgian yeastiness and dark fruity to chocolatey tone
Texture: medium bodied, good sipper; nice movement of the Belgian yeasty tones spiking on my tongue (seemed appropriate); finishes somewhat Belgian-like with some peachy to apricot sort-of-thing going on
Overall: so I guess this is some sort of Belgian imperial stout, I guess? Well, sure I'd have another.

Can to chalice.
Appearance: dark amber/mahogany sort of color with a two finger white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: caramel/toffee malts, earthy character, pistachios, light Belgian yeastiness, some candied dark fruits then the cherries pop in a semi-sweet way
Flavor: takes all the prior noted aromas to blend nicely in a semi-sweet to spicy sort of way; mild aftertaste of Belgian malts & spices
Texture: medium bodied, great sipper, malty along the tongue; finishes with some cherry sweet and Belgian malts
Overall: enough of the Belgian malts show up to tell me this is a Quad - yes, but the cherry thing - that seems way fainter than expected.

Can to Belgian chalice.
Appearance: dark red to mahogany in color with a finger's worth of white foamy head which dissipated to leave some messy lace
Aroma: candied apples, Belgian yeasty semi-spiciness, caramel malts, some grassy to earthy character
Flavor: blended aromatics show up sweetly and spicy, mild caramel malty to Belgian yeasty spicy aftertaste
Texture: medium bodied, decent sipper, finishes with some dry apple-like to Belgian yeastiness
Overall: well, I'd say it's pretty good as a Belgian strong golden ale, perhaps but a true Belgian Tripel, hmmmm...well, I think some things in the recipe may need to change.

Can from Eddy's Beverage, Inc., Saratoga Springs. Lightly hazy reddish-brown with lots of dark floaties, nice sparkle, ring of head, no lacing. Aroma is caramel malt and dark fruit. Taste follows aroma. Smooth, frothy texture, soft carbonation, finish as taste. I expect this style to be sweet but there is something missing here--lack of carbonation, lack of yeasty complement or something where there's no counterpoint to make this pop. Not a favorite quad of mine.

(Draft at Beer Temple, Amsterdam, 22 Feb 2025) Pale red colour with foamy pinkish red head. Fruity nose with blueberries, blackberries and citrus. Fruity, tart taste with notes of blueberries, blackberries, lemon and white bread. Low bitterness. Medium body, dry. Fresh and fruity, with a generous dry acidity. Very nice.
