Bottle: Poured an amber color ale with large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of floral and grassy hops is very enjoyable and quite powerful. Taste is also dominated by a huge aroma of powerful grassy, green and floral hops with some citrus notes. Malt backbone is present though hardly plays a huge roles considering the amount of hops in this beer. Body is about average with good carbonation. Solid harvest beers with loads of hops and limited bitterness level.

A dark brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, faint nutty chocolate malt with light grassy hops. In mouth, a nice nutty roasted caramel malt with light British hops, light but well well done. On tap at Arrow and Loon.

(330mL bottle from LCBO) Pours a slightly murky pale red-brown, pinkish around the rim, pink-white head is medium, bubbly, short-lived. Aroma sour red fruit, funky, a bit lactic. Flavour is sour fruit at first, mixed up raspberry and sour cherry/vinous character (Pinot barrel?), bit of Brett. Raspberry builds up from the middle on along with some lactic character, somewhat acidic in the middle. Finishes quite dry and clean without a lot of flavour, a little creamy, maybe lightly tannic. Only a little bit of wood, I didn’t get that much barrel from this. Body medium, carb a bit high and soda-like for my taste. This is a good sour but I would’ve liked a bit more barrel and a bit more finish, especially as it’s pricey!

(Draught at Brydens, Sept 21 2013) Pours a dark gold colour, white head, a bit of lace. Aroma is grassy hops, pale malt, grain. Flavour follows for the most part. Sweetish pale malts, grassy hops, light citrus pith, grain to start. More pith and grain towards the middle, finishes slightly bitter with a real grain edge. Mouthfeel fairly light, carb moderate. Sad to say this comes across as a boring, macro-ish pale ale. Disappointing.

Single from LCBO, painted label brown bottle. Pours a clean golden-amber colour with a beautiful creamy warm cap, good retention and thick foamy lace. Fresh grassy hop aromas. Mild dry mouthfeel that is medium-light bodied. The flavours are nicely balanced between the grass hops and the cereal grain malts. Goes down quite well as well-blended with the grass, grain and decent dryness - without being too much.

(Draught at Brydens, Sep 16 2013) Pours a hazy orangish gold with a dense white head and a carpet of lace. Aroma is very intense, tart citrus and pit-fruit/red fruit, quite wine-like. Some wood, slight peppery notes. No real rye, a little funky but at a yeasty rind level. Juicy character to the palate, sweet/tart, fruity, vinous - similar fruits to the aroma with a bit of berry character towards the finish. Particularly from mid-palate there is a slightly woody, peppery note, becomes more tart/astringent towards the finish. Slight funky character from the barrel in the later stages, light hop/grain bitterness, pepper on the finish as well. Body is medium but carb effervescent, slight cling on the palate, touch of booze. Barrel really owns the rye and the peppercorn here. Reminds me a little of low-sweetness sangria! It’s tasty though, much more tart than expected but I like cab franc and I like this.

Really nice. Great fruity finish. Pours cloudy orange without much head or lacing. Finishes with some kind of tangy fruit mixed with florals. Maybe the curacao. Makes for a great twist at the end. Some coriander as well. Barrel very subtle and well-integrated. On draft at Volo for Zwanze Day.
