(On draught at Bryden’s, Sept 22 2012 as Late Summer Saison; assume this is the same beer with additional ageing per description). Poured a slightly cloudy blond with slight orange hints, seemed to clear a bit as it warmed. Aroma had moderate, slightly banana ester and funky yeast characters, Some wheat and graininess from the pilsner malts, herbal and citrus notes that showed coriander and a little lemon character with the hops. Flavour is nicely bitter and biscuity, with some light banana, herbs, light pepper and a bit of tart lemon peel on the finish. Mouthfeel medium for a saison, average carbonation. Nice, balanced and fairly complex saison but not overly polished. Refreshing and quaffable.

Impressive beer from amsterdam. Pours cloudy blond with lacing and a little head. Smell has bubble gum hops and soft carbonation. Nice soft feel on palate. There’s some bitterness and a little boozy fermented funk. Good saison.

Re-Rate: (500mL bottle from LCBO) Pours a clear medium gold with a bubbly white head, no lace. Aroma light coriander, wheat malt, salt, slight honey in the background, bit yeasty. Taste initially salty with slightly sour citrus, then becomes a little more tart/sweet in the middle with malted wheat, coriander, yeasty spice and light funk, honey, drying up on the finish with lots of pepper, coriander, slight citrus, grain, lingering saltiness (like cheese?) and bitterness, maybe just a hint of wood. Body light, slightly oily, but high crisp carb works to keep it refreshing. After tasting this briefly a year ago, I appreciate it a lot more now. Only gose I’ve had, but I’m imagining there are a lot more worse than this than there are better?

(Draught at Bryden’s, Toronto, June 2012). Poured a hazy pale orange with a fairly small off-white head. Aroma a surprise given the pale colour, roasted coffee dominates with evergreen hops notes backing it up, and caramel malts. Flavour is roasted coffee, some subtle fruit and malt sweetness initially, with pine and leafiness from the hops kicking in mid-palate and augmenting the coffee bitterness to create a relatively dry finish. Fairly thick body and moderate carbonation. I like coffee a lot, and the hopped characters from the IPA came through as well; it was not as good as a hoppy coffee stout but tasty nonetheless.

Smells a little musky and has a nice bit of malt and hops. Pours brown, low carbonation on cask. A little bitterbut not super high on flavour. Just a decent little mild. Burger Bar.

Bottle in London, courtesy of Harry. Pours black-brown with a thick, beige cream head. Light roast in the nose, some soft alcohol, tangy citrus hints. Medium sweet flavor, some dirt, ripe grapefruit, torched grass. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Nice and roasty on the finish, some ripe orange, dirt, light pine. Very nice, fairly mellow.

Canette 473ml.

Bottle: Poured a hazy dirty pale amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of bitter hops with light citrus and earthy notes. Taste is dominated by citrus hops with light earthy note and an astringent finish. Malt profile is quite dry though strong enough to back the hops profile. Body was quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Well brewed though maybe a tad too astringent for my tastbuds.

Nice half-litre bottle with white aluminum covering the cap and a tag around the neck mentioning to roll the bottle to get the yeast going. Wow ! Pretty decent for an Amsterdam brew. Delicious cold !! Pours a cloudy yellow-beige colour with a small white creamy head that leaves good lacing. Beautiful aromas found in Belgian witbiers (yeast, wheat and orange notes). Refreshing slight creamy mouthfeel that is medium-light bodied. The taste is a little milder than the nose, with the grain mostly showing in the end. Pretty refreshing white beer that is good on a very warm day like today.
