Bottle from the brewery store. Pours a clear dark brown color with ruby at the edges and a creamy frothy off white head that displays great retention and lace. Aromas of caramel, toffee, and chocolate maltiness with just a hint of butterscotch and earthy hop to balance. The flavor is rich caramel and toffee maltiness with a fair amount of chocolate notes and some earthy hop flavor and minimal bitterness. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a creamy silky mouthfeel. I seem to be a bit better at tolerating diacetyl in darker beers and I kind of enjoyed this one.

Bottle from the Brewery shop in Fredericton. Pours a fairly clear deep amber color with a decent sized bubbly frothy off white head that persists for a while. Aromas of toffee and caramel with hints of earthy hop and a touch of mineral water, fruit, and butterscotch. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. Decent bitter, again heavy on the diacetyl.

Bottle from the brewery store in Fredericton. Pours a beautifully clear reddish amber color with a decent sized frothy tan head that shows great retention. Aromas of caramel and toffee with a hint of earthy hops. Diacetyl rest, what’s that? The flavor is rich and malty with lots of caramel, butterscotch and toffee. Burnt sugar and light earthy hop flavor to counter the maltiness. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. The diacetyl fits a bit better with this style than some of the others I’ve had from them, a bit too much for my palette.

Bottle from the liquor store on PEI Pours a crystal clear dark brown with ruby at the edges and a wispy off white head that dissipates quickly. Butter caramel and toffee dominate the aroma, with traces of dish soap. I find no weizen or hops in the aroma of this brew. The flavor isn’t much better than the aroma. Buttery burnt caramel with a soapy edge. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. I’m not sure what they were shooting for here, but its safe to say they missed.

Bottle from the brewery store on Queen st. Pours a deep golden color with a decent sized off white head that dissipates rather quickly. Aromas of bready malt with hints of toffee and butter with a bit of floral spicy hop to counter. The flavor is malty sweet with bits of toffee and caramel. Light earthy hop flavor to counter. Medium body and level of carbonation. Decent enough blonde ale.

Tap sample at the source. Slightly hazy medium golden color with a smallish off white head that persists for a good long time. Aromas of butterscotch are front and center and kind of ruin this one for me. Moderate earthy pine and citrus with a bit of caramel to back it up. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a bitter burnt sugary mouthfeel. Too much diacetyl for my palette

Bottle from the source. Pours a solid dark brown with ruby highlights at the edges and a decent sized tan head that slowly dissipates to a ring on top. Aromas of dark and milk chocolate with lots of creamed coffee and bits of caramel and toffee to round it out. The flavor is rich chocolate and caramel with roasted creamed coffee and some light sugar and toffee to round it out. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation, and a creamy silky mouthfeel. I was impressed with this brew, its a very nice stout. Maybe a bit more body than an Irish dry should have, but I enjoyed the heck out of it.

Originally rated December 2009. Bought this one in Edmonston, N.B. when I was on tour with my band. This German-style Dunkel has a huge head that is beige, very creamy, excellent retention and thick and wavy lacing. This is also a hybrid with a traditional English ale so its colour is a dark amber with little bubble carbonation. It becomes hazy when the whole bottle is poured, and ruby highlights show. The aroma is mild with a touch of hop. The malt is very well-hidden with notes of yeast and chocolat. Smooth mouthfeel without stickiness. In the taste, I get some sourness that I am not sure if it is suppose to be there, or if this one outdated. I have seen other reviews talking about this too. Other than that, I do not taste much else. Maybe just disgusted with the infection of this brew. A nice mix of two great styles, but lacking in flavours... and wish I could of had a fresh one.
