Boring. Lacking in hoppyness, crispness, freshness and flavor. Can only discover an overdose of caramel.

Small yellowish head, reasonably stable over hazy orange to golden beer. Sweetish, dull, caramelly nose. Véééééry IPA, indeed. Bit dusty even, old syrup. Dryish, both ever so slightly sweetish as bitterish. In the main taste, the bitterness comes out more in force, slightly metallic, only to fade in the finish and aftertaste. Quite slick, very well-carbonated, medium bodied. IPA - pffff... NZL craftbeer scene has a good reputation, but Monteith’s a letdown, IMO.

Fast gone, just off-white head over big bubbled, very lively carbonated orange-golden beer. Caramel, watery... and near anything else. Benzene? Lightly bitterish - and watery. Bit of parsley, searching well. Utterly light. Had even lighter British ales with so much more flavour. This is but a sorry excuse for an ale.

Small, white-greyish head, fast gone despite lively carbonation in veiled orangey golden beer. Very spicy nose, lavender springing to mind, as some pine needles, heather. Bathroom connotations.... Less outspoken above aromas in the mouth, plus arachide, caramel, ginger and some citrus. Better balanced, if yet not very attractive. Ultra light, watery appearance and at the edge of overcarbonation. Disappointing in this time and age.

Klar orangebrun farge med hvitt skum. Veldig svakt humlet, så det er mer maltpreg i lukt og smak. Smak av malt og karamellsødme. Mild bitter avslutning.

Clear pale to medium golden colour, good frothy white head, half-way lasting, good lacing. Aroma ginger, laos, lemon. Flavour medium to light heavy sweet and slightly bitter, lime, ginger, sugary. Thinnish sweet gingery and limey finish, refreshing, like a ginger beer or lemonade.

Ok, so they used to call this just Monteith’s Doppelbock (7%) then it became Monteith’s Doppelbock Winter Ale (6%) now it’s back to Monteith’s Doppelbock but it’s still 6%. Alles klar? 330ml bottle into schooner glass. Light chocolate nose. Mahogany red beer with thin white head. Laces well. Light body, chocolate taste and finish. A little sour late on. Unspectacular but easy drinking (especially for 6%!).

(Bottle) Pours clear amber brown with almost no head. Aroma has citrus and cardboard notes. Medium body with light carbonation. Sweet toffee balanced by fairly intense bitterness. OK but not great.
