Bottle from De Bierkoninng, Amsterdam Saturday 3rd March 2012 consumed at home 08.03.12 Pours hazy gold/orange with white head. Quite spicy from the off, with a decent bitterness that tickles the tongue, nice mouthfeel, soft and smooth. Warming from the alcohol, then then the bitterness shows again. Fine A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4

75 cl bottle from Mitra Middenweg (A’dam) @ home. Clear, amber color, off white, sticky head. Once the head fades strong wood aroma’s (oak, vanilla) come up, with some sweet malt in the background. Flavor is medium bitter, still with wood notes (oak). Body is medium. Finishes with a medium bitterness. Interesting to say the least, and pretty good.

Rerate: remains too alcoholic in the nose, but mainly in flavor. Unbelievable this kind of beer scores awards at shows. Alcohol all over the place and dries out the beer even more, balance is questionable. Score goes even down a couple of tenths. Bottled @ home, from de Bierkoning. Dark color, short creamy brown head. Aroma of chocolat, hint of blackcurrant, slight lactic like a milk stout. Bit bitter taste, slight sweet, strength mostly comes from the alcohol, which is supposed to be ’warming’. I’d call it burning rather. Creamy texture, but it lacks body. Really a pumped up version of their stout, just with some more alcohol, which really doesnt do the beer any good.

20 cl. draft @ Kerstbierfestival 2011: A: clear, extremely dark brown going to black with no head – S: coffee, sweet dark malts, smell is overall rather light – T: wonderful sweet coffee, plenty of ice coffee, molasses, brown sugar, slight liqueur cherries, touch alcoholic dark fruits in the aftertaste – B: still rather light for what it is but also slightly syrupy, medium carbonation – very nice stuff
