20 cl. draft @ Kerstbierfestival 2011: A: clear, extremely dark brown going to black with no head – S: coffee, sweet dark malts, smell is overall rather light – T: wonderful sweet coffee, plenty of ice coffee, molasses, brown sugar, slight liqueur cherries, touch alcoholic dark fruits in the aftertaste – B: still rather light for what it is but also slightly syrupy, medium carbonation – very nice stuff

15cl bottle sample @ Kerstbierfestival ’11, Essen.

15cl draft sample @ Kerstbierfestival ’11, Essen.

Very good brown-beige head over nearly black beer. Faint chocolate, lightly roasted, cypress, dark green leaves (and ditto malts). Sweet, slightly roasted, active carbon, sweetness building up in the finish, with upcoming woodiness and nutty flavours. Very slick, medium to well-bodied, and generally quite well-balanced. Rather excellent, very well-balanced stout, one to cherish again.

Collapsing, but stable off-white head over faintly hazed copper-orange beer. Blue curaçao peel, musty, aromatic and white candi sugar; in all, overperfumed. Blue curaçao again, cheesy, dried oranges, again rather musty. Warming up, alcoholsweetness. Very slick, alcoholwarming, long-lasting orangey aftertaste. Too much curaçao for a real balance, but the basic beer seems quite sound.

Tap. Black color, brown head, quickly receding. Aroma: roast, mocha, chocolate, sweet, even a bit of fruit. Flavor is roasted sweet. Medium bodied. Finishes roasted and bitter. Pretty good.

Bottle @ home. Clear golden color, medium white head. Aroma of tropical fruit, some melon, banana, hint of old cheese, some biscuit malt. Oak wood chips give the beer a very typical aroma, which you usually dont find in other tripels. In taste its reasonably bitter for a tripel. Slight dry palate. Decent body. It doesn’t have the typical spicy notes of a tripel, but leans more towards the fruity. Good carbonation, without being too heavy on the stomach. Another rock-solid brew from Duits & Lauret.
