Description
Our craft beers are contemporary yet rooted in history and inspired by classic types of beer. You can taste the history of prison town Veenhuizen in our beers. The Maallust beers are artisanal, authentic and brewed with only the very best ingredients. Whether it’s our hoppy blonde Weldoener or the treacherously smooth tripel Zware Jongen; Maallust beers are full of character.

Maallust was founded in 2011. It was initiated by a group of 25 entrepeneurs who call themselves the ‘Zware Jongens’ (Heavy Guys). They not only started brewing in Veenhuizen, they also revived the dilapidated Maallust complex. After a thorough renovation, the brewery opened its doors. Today, the Maallust complex looks marvelous, and its beer is available all throughout the Netherlands. Maallust is the perfect addition to a village with a unique history.

Fles gekocht in Veenhuizen, de brouwerij. Thuis gedronken. Niet de lekkerste tripel, nasmaak iets te bitter. Bottle at home, this time I liked it much better for some reason. Sweet and taste like a real Belgian tripel.

Zowel van tap in de brouwerij, als thuis uit fles. Een lekker zoetig aroma, en ook de smaak is zoetig. Mooie kleur. Prettig bier dat krachtiger overkomt dan het alcoholpercentage.

Slightly hazy pale golden colour, initially tall fluffy white head, half-way lasting, patchy lacing. Aroma malts, grain, cloves, citrus, yeast. Taste medium sweet and light bitter, grainy, light citrus. Sweetbitter aftertaste, fruity and spicy notes. Medium body, watery texture, average carbonation, decent brew.

Very good, dense white head, stable, over clear orange-golden beer, well-carbonated. Grainy nose, rice, ricewater, bit dullish malts. Bit spicy, white candi sugar. Spicy, even peppery flavour, way more vivid than the nose. Cookies, but including oxydated ones, toasted (old) bread. Bit of caramel, if precious little sweetness; mildly bitter. Sharpish carbonation, quite slick, medium bodied at least. Jumble between rather less and way more positive features. Certainly not uninteresting.

Medium yellowish-cream head over well-carbonated orange-amber beer. Caramel nose, manure, strawbales from the stables, arachide. Lightly sourish and bitterish taste, non-sweet caramel. Dry, bitterish leaves. Again some arachide/peanut, but very mildly. Feels well-carbonated, spritzy. Light body, bit slick. OK, but some aromas/flavours make me fear for a (slight) infection.

Huge, very dense & fine yellowish head, receding over fairly hazy orange-golden beer. Lots of clove, some fresh herbs, wheat. Serious head hampers perception at first. Warming up, more citrus, orange, and also coriander somehow. Citrus, orange, but again a coriander impression. Wheat obvious, with typical acidity. Bitterish-spice background, despite some sweetish malts. Good balance, but not much fireworks. Enough fusels/esters. Well-carbonated, slick, medium bodied; reasonably refreshing. Certainly not bad in its style, classical maybe a tad "diligent student".

Huge, light yellowish head, very dense & fine, stable over clear metallic golden beer. Pale & quite spicy malts and a bit herbal, raw tobacco. Even more spicy in the taste, peppery green herbs, lots of fine malts and balance with noble hops. Light body, creamy texture, medium carbonation. Quite likable, really, one for the enjoying.

Bottle received in a trade with Patrick, cheers. Pours hazy dull amber with a medium sized lasting creamy woff-white head. Aroma of sweet malt, hop, fruit, grass and yeast. Medium plus sweetness, light bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, average to lively carbonation. Finish is slightly peppery.
