Description
Our craft beers are contemporary yet rooted in history and inspired by classic types of beer. You can taste the history of prison town Veenhuizen in our beers. The Maallust beers are artisanal, authentic and brewed with only the very best ingredients. Whether it’s our hoppy blonde Weldoener or the treacherously smooth tripel Zware Jongen; Maallust beers are full of character.
Maallust was founded in 2011. It was initiated by a group of 25 entrepeneurs who call themselves the ‘Zware Jongens’ (Heavy Guys). They not only started brewing in Veenhuizen, they also revived the dilapidated Maallust complex. After a thorough renovation, the brewery opened its doors. Today, the Maallust complex looks marvelous, and its beer is available all throughout the Netherlands. Maallust is the perfect addition to a village with a unique history.

Bottle. Color: Clear dark ruby, beige head. Aroma: Smoked malt, some caramel and dark fruit. Taste: Smoked malt, smoked fish, dark malt and hints of roasted malt, sugary, caramel, dark fruit. Smoked malt is dominating, making this special edition less complex than the original. Medium sweet and moderate to over moderate hop-bitterness. Light herbal hints. Over medium body, just below average carbonation. Nice one for smoked beer lovers (I am one of them), but I lightly prefer the original.

300ml bottle. Minimally cloudy, amber colour with average, frothy, slowly diminishing, minimally lacing, white head. Minimally bready, grainy, malty and herbal hoppy as well as minimally yeasty spicy aroma, hints of brown bread crust, a touch of peppermint, waxy overtones. Taste is floral hoppy and slightly yeasty spicy, diluted, malty basis, veggie overtones, a touch of asparagus.
Watery texture, minimally dry palate, medium, prickly to lively carbonation.
Watery, slightly overcarbonated, rather veggie flavours - not really convincing.

Inderdaad een tafelbier. Past eigenlijk bij alle maaltijden. Verfrissend voor bij heet. Drogig voor bij zoet. Moutig voor bij de zuurkool. Geslaagd!
