Description
Our craft beers are contemporary yet rooted in history and inspired by classic types of beer. You can taste the history of prison town Veenhuizen in our beers. The Maallust beers are artisanal, authentic and brewed with only the very best ingredients. Whether it’s our hoppy blonde Weldoener or the treacherously smooth tripel Zware Jongen; Maallust beers are full of character.

Maallust was founded in 2011. It was initiated by a group of 25 entrepeneurs who call themselves the ‘Zware Jongens’ (Heavy Guys). They not only started brewing in Veenhuizen, they also revived the dilapidated Maallust complex. After a thorough renovation, the brewery opened its doors. Today, the Maallust complex looks marvelous, and its beer is available all throughout the Netherlands. Maallust is the perfect addition to a village with a unique history.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is a bit spicy with malt, caramel, notes of ripe/dried fruits, yeast, some floral notes. Flavour is fairly sweet for a Saison lacking that dry finish I crave. Light to moderate bitterness, medium body. More of a sweet caramalt character than I like from a Saison, not a bad beer.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is sweet caramel malt, dried fruits, bit nutty with some almond, hint of toffee. Flavour is sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium, slightly sticky texture. Alcoholic touch in the finish. Fine English-style Barley Wine, hoped for a bit more hop nuance, there being 10 varieties of hop in this.
