Description
Our craft beers are contemporary yet rooted in history and inspired by classic types of beer. You can taste the history of prison town Veenhuizen in our beers. The Maallust beers are artisanal, authentic and brewed with only the very best ingredients. Whether it’s our hoppy blonde Weldoener or the treacherously smooth tripel Zware Jongen; Maallust beers are full of character.

Maallust was founded in 2011. It was initiated by a group of 25 entrepeneurs who call themselves the ‘Zware Jongens’ (Heavy Guys). They not only started brewing in Veenhuizen, they also revived the dilapidated Maallust complex. After a thorough renovation, the brewery opened its doors. Today, the Maallust complex looks marvelous, and its beer is available all throughout the Netherlands. Maallust is the perfect addition to a village with a unique history.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is malt with candy sugar, some caramel, and light noble hops. Very sweet sugary flavour with a mild bitterness. Body is medium. Too much candy sugar thrown in, a shame because it draws attention away from their homegrown Goldings hops.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is roasted malt with coffee, some chocolate, touch of smoke and ash, mocha. Moderate to medium sweet with a roasty bitterness. Body is medium and a bit creamy. Lingering roasty bitterness, solid Stout, does the style justice.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Herbal and yes sort of 'green' aroma, softly hoppy, grainy malt. Mild bitter, light sweet. Medium body. I'm not too crazy about the effect of these hops, very herbal, not the Centennial I know.
