Description
Our craft beers are contemporary yet rooted in history and inspired by classic types of beer. You can taste the history of prison town Veenhuizen in our beers. The Maallust beers are artisanal, authentic and brewed with only the very best ingredients. Whether it’s our hoppy blonde Weldoener or the treacherously smooth tripel Zware Jongen; Maallust beers are full of character.

Maallust was founded in 2011. It was initiated by a group of 25 entrepeneurs who call themselves the ‘Zware Jongens’ (Heavy Guys). They not only started brewing in Veenhuizen, they also revived the dilapidated Maallust complex. After a thorough renovation, the brewery opened its doors. Today, the Maallust complex looks marvelous, and its beer is available all throughout the Netherlands. Maallust is the perfect addition to a village with a unique history.

Bottled. An amber beer with a huge beige head. The aroma has notes of straw and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of dusty hops, malt, and straw, leading to a bitter finish.

Bottle shared thanks to Deanso. Pours hazy brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of malt, over ripe fruit, raisins and caramel. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Some chocolate coming out in a nice way in the palate. Medi bodied with soft carbonation. Pretty nice!

Clear golden colour, tiny frothy white head, dissipates quickly but nice lacing. Sweet malts, yeast, banana, grassy and floral hops, citrus, alcohol. Medium sweetbitter taste, spicy, alcohol. Full body, creamy texture, sharp on the tongue, herbal bitter finish, sweet and earthy notes and again alcohol. A somewhat coarse beer, worthy of its name which means heavy hitter (by the way also the Dutch name for beagle boy).

Muddy red brown colour, small tan head, dissipates (too) quickly. Sweet malty nose, aroma roasted, contains caramel, brown sugar, bit chocolate, earthy tones, clove. Medium sweetbitter roasted taste, earthy and spicy tones. Medium body, creamy texture, finish as in taste maybe a bit more bitter. Not a typical dubbel, literally with a down to earth character.
