Description
Initially launched in early 2020 as a gypsy brewery, they opened their own brewery in Autumn 2020.
Newbarns is a brand-new brewery, but the team behind it certainly know what they’re doing. McKenzie, his partner Emma McIntosh, Jonny Hamilton and Fred Bjerkseth have an impressive array of experience between them from the likes of The Kernel, Siren and Beavertown breweries

Bottle at home in Hackney - sourced from brewery online shop. Pours clear yellow gold, lightly effervescent with a frothy, pure white head. Super clean, succinct, light rindy bitterness, nips of pine, subtle mosaic, citrus, dried pale malts. Light bodied with massaging carbonation. Clean and dry in the finish, further delicate hop expression, balanced bitterness, biscuity accents, impressions of tangerine, melon. Goes down incredibly easily. Wonderful stuff.

Can from Newbarns. It pours clear yellow with a foamy white cap. The aroma is fresh, grass, straw, earth, floral accents, doughy white bread and some toasty grains. The taste is crisp and snappy, dry, freshly cut grass character, herbal, light spice, earth, toasted grains and doughy bread with a dry finish. Average and light to moderate carbonation. Maybe a touch more carbonation could lift this a touch further? A quenching lagerbier.

Bottle from Newbarns. It pours lightly hazy golden with a thick, fluffy lasting white head. The aroma is so crazy fresh, pine, white grape, melon, sweet gooseberry jam, some green grassy notes, the bread and a hint of biscuit. The taste is crisp, firmly dry, nice kick of bitterness, airy malts, green and fresh, fragrant almost, grass, light florals, pine, white grape, gooseberry, melon, touch of bread and biscuit in the backdrop. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Condition is nigh on perfect. Quenching, classy and moreish. Hopefully the Leith brewed stuff will be at this level?

Bottle from the brewery. It pours lightly hazy yellow - gold with a thick, fluffy and lasting white head. The aroma is fresh and green upfront, lovely piney vibes, grass, juicy tropical backdrop with pineapple and dried mango in particular. The taste is crisp, firmly dry and bitter, green and piney, fresh and moreish, grass, twist of citrus, touch of peppery spice and light floral accents. Finish is bone dry. Light body, moderate carbonation and fluffy, pillowy mouth-feel. Quenching and moreish. A delicious 3% offering.
