Pours clear copper with a lasting, small, foamy, white head; lots of lacing. Unusual aroma of hay, red fruit (cranberry), grapefruit peel, slightly expired fruity yoghurt, earth & wet leaves, leather, brett, bread too, a bit stale. Medium funky sour onset, quite fruity, balancing red berries & lactic acid, wheaty accent in the back, perhaps sourdough; light grassy bitter in the middle with a sweetish hint of bread & caramel. Bit tart finish, faintly herbal hoppy, lingering (red) fruit & yeast. Medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation. I contacted the pub about this one afterwards, as I couldn't get to talk to the owner that night. Apparently this was intended as a Scotch Ale: in any case it's lacking a sufficient amount of maltiness to really fit the style. As for the 'Belgian tradition': my guess is they were aiming to incorporate elements of a classic, Flemish 'Oud Bruin' - which explains the link with the local red wines. With that in mind, I would conclude that their attempt hasn't been completely succesful (a tad too sour), but at least daring and interesting.

Pours clear golden/orange with a lasting, small, frothy, off-white head; some lacing. Aroma of orange peel, peach, tangerine, mango, grapefruit, hint of cheese, bready malt & honey. It tastes medium fruity sweet, quite malty, some orange & tangerine, a bit bready, and light hoppy bitter, grassy note. Dryish, grassy & floral hoppy finish, lingering hint of bread, even some yeast. Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation. Perfecty acceptable 'house IPA', could do - even for Croatian standards now - with a hoppier character.

Yellow colored, medium white head, not too lasting. Aroma is of malt, grains, some herbal hops, buttery. Taste is medium sweet malt, grainy, medium- herbal hops, moderate bitterness, some butter, dry finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Not bad. (on tap, King’s Caffe, Rijeka)

On tap at King’s Caffe Food Pub Rijeka. Black coloured, medium sized pale brown head, mild chocolate in the nose. Quite pleasant. Mild roasted malt, light coffee and chocolate with dry bitter finish with touch of roastiness. Nice surprise.

On tap at King’s Caffe Food Pub Rijeka. Yellow/golden coloured, medium sized white head, mild grainy nose. Sweetish malty, yeasty, light grainy and slightly herbal hoppy wit rather dry and bitter finish. Easy-drinkable.

On tap at Beeranje 17 Crikvenica. Hazy golden coloured, small white head, slightly perfumed orange nose. Acidic and perfumed orange, weak malty and moderate bitterness with discreet hops presence. Dry finish. Not the freshest version but still ok.

On tap at Beeranje 17 Crikvenica. Unclear amber/brown coloured, medium sized creamy off-white head, slightly dusty grainy nose. Malty, light caramel, grainy, slightly nutty and rather dry bitterish finish. Drinkable.

On tap at Beeranje 17. Murky red, amber-tinged. Big thick lasting white head, creamy. Full grainy, perfumey. Grainy perfumy malty taste, light tart touches, grainy, lightly bitter finish. Medium body. Okay.

King’s Caffe. Misty reddish amber. Strange maltiness. Caramelly. Something’s wrong here but slightly so. Aroma hops obvious but offset by the malt. Light citric taste on dry maltiness. Good bitterness. Bit subdued aromatics. Requires additional tweaking.

King’s Caffe. Tap. Thanks Mak! Pitch black, thick brownish head. Pungent sweetish aroma, coffee, liiight orange liqueur. Not at at all! Chocolate cake taste, solid coffee, sweetish ending slightly light and vaaaguelly tart (black patent malt or Vizir? But certainly nice. Credit where credit’s due. Right now, this is quite good.
