Gekocht op zaterdag 4-2-2017 bij K&S Beer Tobacco Galerie in de Katelijnestraat 52 te Brugge tijdens het 10e Bruggse bierfestival. Een winkeltje waar je keuze hebt uit meer dan 500 verschillende bieren en met nog een ingang/achterdeur rechttegenover brouwerij De Halve Maan. En geproefd op 2-9-2017. St-Paul Tripel is een donker-geel en wazig (er drijft gist in rond) biertje dat bij het uitschenken overvloedig veel wit schuim produceert in een gelijkmatige structuur. Het blijft wat aan de glaswand kleven. Veel CO2 pareling te zien van middelmatig grootte belletjes. Het aroma van St-Paul Tripel is wat fruitig met citrus en een weinig ananas, ook zit er een biscuit-mout aromaatje bij. De smaak van St-Paul Tripel is zoetig met een klein bittertje. Ook de citrus zit er nog wat bij. In de mond geeft St-Paul Tripel een medium volmondigheid, een bitterdroogje en het lijkt zelfs een ietwat stoffige textuur te hebben. Veel prikkelend koolzuurgas onderdrukt wat te veel de smaak. Allemaal wat raar, dus een onevenwichtig biertje. De nasmaak vloeit uit en is bitterig, zoetig en licht droog. Ik heb de fles in 2 keer uitgedronken (een keramische van 50cl) omdat de smaak mij niet beviel. Verder doet St-Paul Tripel mij eerder aan een gewoon blond bier denken, vooral het aroma en de smaak gaan in die richting. 500ml ceramic bottle from the Offie, Leicester. Packaging is over the top but the beer itself is rather attractive: cola brown, slightly translucent with a loose khaki head. Light nutty aroma with some liquorice and sweet spice. Sweet taste with enough of a balance to give it character. Again there’s a nutty note in the fairly short finish. Very heavily carbonated, which works for the light body. It’s a delicious drink of a style I’m fond of, although I’ve had better.

F: big, white, long lasting. C: deep gold, light hazy. A: malty, honey, bit of orange peels, bit of spicy, coriander, yeasty, caramel, fruity. T: malty, fruity, honey, warming alcohol, spicy, coriander, grassy, caramel, medium body, medium carbonation, not bad, even enjoyed a little but boring, 0,5l bottle from Cora Woluwe-Saint-Lambert in Brussels.

From old tasting notes. Cloudy amber orange color. Light zesty butterscotch malt aroma. Bittersweet toffeeish flavor with lots of maltiness and spicy hops. Bittersweet dry finish. Sweet cloying aftertaste.

From old tasting notes. Sharp reddish brown color. Bubbly tan head. Faint caramel malt aroma. Fruity sweet character with a hint of yeastiness. Though it’s not complex, their is an element of intrigue to this brew. Nice subtle hop finish. Long pleasant aftertaste.

From old tasting notes. Bright amber orange color. Big bubbly beige head. Subtle toasted malt aroma. Intense earthy malt flavor upfront. Rich burnt sugar undertones. Spicy hops come through in finish. Rich and flavorful. Very good.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 26C). Bottle 33 cl. AROMA: medium-low fruity aroma with notes of caramelized oranges and slight pears. background of spicy alcohol. APPEARANCE: deep gold color and clear. large off-white head with good retention. Lace formation. FLAVOR: similar to the aroma with medium-low fruity esteres (oranges, pears). background of a slight sweet malt note. slight peppery alcohol. medium bitterness with an almost dry and medium bitter finish. PALATE: medium-light body with medium-high carbonation. slight alcohol warmth. OVERALL: a regular but nice belgian tripel.

Bottle shared at Cotteridge convention 05/03/2016. Thanks to Shane. A clear dark amer coloured pour with a loose white head. Aroma is dark cereal grains, papery, brown sugars, pale grains. Flavour is composed of spicy rye bread, brown sugars, little jammy fruits, papery, little oxidised. Palate is semi sweet, higjish carbonation. Not in great shape.
