Description
Local Option Bierwerker is the brewing division of The Local Option, a pub in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. Owner Tony Russomanno has established himself in the craft beer community through years of experience, and today he partners with six different breweries to create all of Local Option's diverse and innovative beers. Local Option Bierweker believes partnering with different breweries gives them maximum flexibility, allowing them to brew as large or as limited a batch as needed. They’ve taken up recipes long forgotten by the mainstream, such as the Kentucky Common, and perfected well-established favorites, like their steam beer Dampf Loc. Local Option Bierwerker offers a brash, in-your-face approach to craft beer; they brew with bravado and aren’t afraid of a little well-placed irreverence while still respecting the long-standing traditions that provide the foundation for their heavy metal brews.

bottle - Copper pour with big chunks of suspended yeast flakes. It smells yeasty and malty. The flavor is of sweet, bready malt with yeast and caramel. Medium bodied. Decent.

500mL bottle poured into a small St. Bernardus goblet. Golden color beer, get more hazy as you get down the bottle. Medium head, decent retention. Aroma is green noble hops but not the centerpiece despite being very present. A strong lagered biscuit malt, not sweet but bready. Flavor is present hops and bitterness with strong malts. A lightly-heavy body, felt on the cheeks. It’s been a while since I had a Local Option beer that did for me.

500 ml purchased at 7-11 Kittery, ME. Dirty golden with thin lasting head. Aroma is herbal with weak fruity yeast. Bread malts.

Mouthfeel has a good amount of carbonation and feels big for a brew under 6%. Dry texture after the swallow. The base has bready malt and grain with yeast having an herbal character. Mildly bitter. Yeah it’s decent but I would let bottles sit around too long, feels like this is would go south real quick. Right now I enjoyed it ok.

500mL capped bottle. Poured into my RBSG 2015 glass. Small brown head atop a black body. Aroma is chalky and too dry, just dry-paper roasted malts. This is fine in the flavor, more like a bigger dry stout rather than what I consider a foreign stout. Can’t tell its strong than 6 abv. Light bitter malts but low on the hops.
