On tap at Hay merchant. Pours a dark brown ruby hue with small beige head leaving sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is raisin caramel and chocolate. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet chocolate malt with light roast and light bitterness in the finish. A good American strong ale from HeBrew.

Bottle. Prune, barley malt, and alcohol aroma. Black with moderate head. Sweet prune followed by strong herbal bitterness and intense alcohol finish. Very boozy.

Bottle. Big boozy prune and molasses aroma. Black with a small brown head. Prune, anise, molasses, and very hot booze flavor. Burnt coffee in the finish. Full body with a pretty intense alcohol burn. Alcohol was overwhelmingly harsh, and this one would definitely benefit from some aging.

22 oz bomber shared by Indra. The pour is a dark brown with some ruby highlights and a smallish light tan head. The aroma is sweet cocoa malt, along with some faint vanilla raspberry sweetness. There is also an interesting floral character on top of the cocoa and vanilla sweetness. The taste is the cocoa sweetness primarily, with the vanilla sweet present, and roast and coffee in the back. More vanilla comes out as it warms. The palate is medium to light bodied, dry finish. Oddly, as this warmed some and seemed to get thinner. Thanks for sharing this one Eric.

Pour is a dark brown with a medium sized head. Aroma is of dark fruit, some vinegar and caramel. Flavor is again dark fruit to start, then comes some molasses and red wine aspects. FInish is some of the wood from the barrel aging. This is a nice slow sipper with a little something each sip.

Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head with good retention recedes to coat surface. Sweet pit fruit, licorice and soy aromas. Thick with upfront dark pit fruit turning to soy before the hot lasting molasses finish.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is a nice big cinnamon with some spice and chocolate. Flavor is again a nice big spice followed by a nice creamy vanilla. Finish has some cocoa with bitter dark chocolate. This was a fantastic spiced/cocoa/vanilla ale. One of those beers where each sip brings something different.

Pour is a super thick black with a very small tan head. Aroma is super sweet with some chocolate, vanilla, anise and booze. Flavor is super hot with alcohol. Some of the chocolate malt shine past the booze but the alcohol takes over. This is a real heavy mouthfeel with a ton of alcohol presence. I’m glad I only got a 12 oz bottle b/c there is no way I am going to finish this. I’m done with this series.

Bomber from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours very dark brown/black with a temporary, nearly chocolate, tan head. Aroma runs toward treacle and dark fruits. Quite full bodied. It has carb. Flavor is chocolate, then dark fruit, then moving on to chocolate and dark malt. Heat sneaks in once in awhile, but it’s not obnoxious. Much less heat than expected. Certainly not dry, but the sweetness is much more restrained than many barleywines. I think there’s bitter in the finish, but whether from burnt malt or hop? It’s fairly refined, and pretty tasty.
