Clear amber color with a medium creamy off-white head. Thin and sticky slow lacing. Both hops and malt in the aroma. Medium bodied, with a rather light hops load in the flavor. Kind of mild for a Bitter, there is a definite malt backbone along with some fruit. The finish is a little on the sweet side. A good session beer.

700 beers with no end in sight. I am not really a big fan of this style but I really couldn't ask for much better after mowing the lawn. Pours a light yellow color (mildly opaque) with a rather compact white head. Aroma of citrus, spice and vanilla. Light, crisp and refreshing with a nicely spiced and lightly hopped flavor. The finish is vigorously crisp (citrus) and lends to enjoying this Wit longer than I do most others of the style.

Begins wet and very muted. Definitely some great roasted malt and coffee flavors, but they are not able to fully show through the thinness. Not enough of it there I guess. Has a smooth mouthfeel is pretty well balanced, having a nice bitter hops finish. Good blackberry notes throughout and a medium to light body. I have heard that this beer was made with better quality in days gone by and it shows. Just needs more of everything, the potential is there, a wonderful balance and good complex chocolate, dark fruit, and coffee aroma rounded out with hops. The argument that porters should not be and were not stouts does not really hold in my mind here. This beer just dosent have enough flavor even for a porter, to put it in the very top tier. Great balance though I will reiterate. Nice dark complexion, with a bit of brownish beige head. Good berry smell. Alcohol not detectable. Wish there was sediment in the bottle.

A solid bitter. Golden-hued, topped with a moderate white head, an aroma of bready malts and bittering hops is readily apparent. The flavor develops as the beer warms, with bittering hops and toasty malts giving way to floral and fruity hops notes at the back of the tongue. Overall, the flavors are more pronounced and crisper than in many bitters, which sometimes tend to leave a muddy aftertaste. A great summer seasonal from Great Lakes.

More interesting than the average lager, this version pours to a golden hue, with a minimal white head and light malty aroma. Drinks almost like a wheat beer, and shares many characteristics with the Wolnzacher Hell I recently rated, although it is neither as complex or as smooth (this probably due to the GL Helles having more carbonation). I prefer Dortmunder Gold, but Locktender beats most boring lagers.

Fantastic darker amber colour with a long lasting tan head. Smells of sugar, molasses and canella rise from the glass. Good medium-bodied beer with a nice and not overpowering 'wintery' flavour. The aftertaste lacks a little bit, being bland...but all in all, a great overall beer. Just what I have come to expect from Great Lakes. Only one not-so-great beer from the whole lot is a pretty big deal to me.

Many breweries would try to pass this off as an IPA - it sure is as hoppy as some "IPAs" anyway - this is really a perfectly balanced pale ale - the malt/hop balance is the best you'll find in the style - and the slighty bready presence really tops it off and creates a fuller flavor - slight woody finish that's nice and clean - an excellent pale ale.

Complete with a thick, white head only Moses could part! Waves of coriander, orange, and wheat lap to, rather than crash to, the shore of my anxious mouth. Teasing apart these wits is tough, but I feel Holy Moses is a competent example. Perhaps a touch too bitter and too carbonated. Still, I'd swim in a choppy pool of the Holy Moses.
