Sample from cask at the 13th annual Smokehouse Mini Real Ale Fest on 05/14/2016. Pours black with a metallic sheen around the edges. Thin light brown head that burns away steadily. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of coffee and malt, with touches of bittersweet chocolate. Rich body with roasted malt and coffee flavors along with dark chocolate and hops. The finish is roasty with a lingering bitter coffee finish. Solid all around.

Sample at The Ohio Taproom. The beer pours a slightly murky amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily to a wispy film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of yeast, fruit and malt. Light-bodied with a floral yeast character and notes of fruit and biscuit malt. The finish is herbal yeast and fruit. Decent overall.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a bright orange color with a medium sized foamy white head that left decent lacing. The aroma was tangy, buttery and had a vague fruity hop element. The flavor was dryish and bitter with vague fruity and piney hops followed by a medicinal presence and a bit of catbox with a hint of butter underneath it all. Medium length finish. Medium body and smooth. Not good.

The flavor was bitter and tart with tangy tropical fruit and a sour off presence that distracted. Long finish with growing off notes. Medium body. Pretty awful.

This beer was obviously infected but the bastards were selling it anyway so they get the crappy rating they deserve. +++ Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a black color with a large creamy brown head that left good lacing. The aroma was peppermint, sour and off. The flavor was sour, infected and had a tart cheap red wine note. Very long sour red wine finish. Moderately full bodied. Pretty awful.
