Description
The Beer that Named the Mountain

Not really! Rainier was born in Seattle in 1878 before the state of Washington was even a state, but well after Mount Rainier was renamed by Captain George Vancouver from it’s original Native American name Tahoma.

Our founder, Andrew Hemrich, was a first generation German from a long line of brewmasters. Following in his father’s footsteps, he built the Seattle Brewing & Malting Company. Today we know it as the Rainier Brewing Company, named after the majestic mountain overlooking Andrew Hemrich’s new hometown.

Throughout the 1900s, Rainier became a regional powerhouse in the West Coast beer world. In 1954, the iconic Rainier “R” sign was raised above the brewery and became a landmark of the Seattle skyline. However, with Rainier’s huge success in the mid-1900s and a changing of the guard, brewing operations were moved away from Seattle, and that iconic “R” sign eventually went dark. Seattle was still the Rainier stronghold it always was, but the spirit of Rainier was weakened.

But if prohibition couldn’t keep Rainier down, nothing else could. Rainier joined forces with Pabst and recommitted to its homeland in the 2000s and once again, the iconic “R” sign lit up the skyline. The reinvigorated spirit of Rainier was welcomed home with open arms and it tasted fresher than ever. To this day, Rainier continues to be a symbol of home and happiness for millions living the Pacific Northwest lifestyle.

Copper with a white head. Clean toasted malt profile. Mild citrus hop notes over top. Very clean, short lived finish with a slight sweet citrus punch. Medium thin body. Pretty solid, actually. Not a lot going on overall. It put out the fire of some ABTs I smoked so I can’t complain.

16 oz bottle, second half poured. First half tried to foam out upon prying the cap, but I refused to let a drop go to waste. I’m rating this, because I was born and raised in Washington, and damn proud of it. So intrigued by the six packs of this that popped up, but went with the single instead. The average Rainier product lasts quite a while in my fridge. I don’t mind it, but typically use it as a palate cleanser between sours. This one gave me a sense of expectation though. Didnt throw down a bet or anything, but maybe I should have. It’s pretty good. Cloudy copper pour. Biscuit, cereal malt aroma and flavor. Hints of bran. Good hop compliments. I’d go with the whole six pack of this. Pretty good beer overall. New Rainier beer means we are bringing back the motorcycle commercial right? Raaaaiii.. nevermind.

GABF 2015. The festival was the first time I saw this beer and did not want to pass up the opportunity to try it. Yellow lager, some white head and well carbonated. good palate. A little malt, but nearly flavorless but not bad at all, and perfectly drinkable.

Milestone beer time! I think I’m gonna start doing cool beers for my every 100, and it starts now. 24 oz man can that I didn’t bother pouring. I wanted to enjoy this the way this can is meant to be enjoyed. Soft hop aroma. To be honest, nothing about this beer offends me. Flavor is very light, but the taste is in no way bad to me. Smooth flavor and a sweet finish. I like to think I’m still enjoying a local beer. It’s definitely a local favorite beer, and it’s hard to go far without someone ordering it. I just don’t think I ever had it before today. First time for everything. Not bad.

Snagged a 24oz can of this "mountain fresh beer" to go with dinner tonight. Drank from the can so it looks like a can. Slight hop presence in the aroma. Flavor is similar with low key sweet Malta and some bread. Surprisingly smooth and not half bad, actually. I wouldn’t mind drinking more of this one so much.

Draught at Bavarian Bistro & Bar, Leavenworth
Pale blond color. It may be crisp, but it has no notable flavor, and one of the lowest bitterness that I can remember.
I would rather drink water.

Sampled during RBSG. From notes. Corn, grains and oddly grainy. Surprisingly good.

16 Oz can poured incorrectly. Figured what the hell. Barely local, but still. need the tick. Horrible aroma to this. Ouch. Suprised I can drink this stuff with this blast of pure nasty. Flavor is much better, though that doesn’t necessarily make it good. Flavor is mostly absent, which I don’t know if I should be thankful for. Crisp finish. People drink this for pleasure? This was strictly business. To end on a good note, there absolutely has to be something worse out there. Maybe I’m being a little harsh. Tastes like a less than appealing pilsner. Alllllright.
