Description
I have been commercially brewing now since November 2006 ( there is still only myself here !!! ) . Since my last update some interesting new beers have been produced , inspired by some of the fantastic beers I have tried not only from the UK but also from the rest of the World in particular the USA .
I have also tried some new ingredients in my beers one of which was a heavily peated whisky malt which came with a warning from the maltster " be careful it's very smoky !" . I added some to my Historic Porter recipe and it worked really well , every pub that had it asked for it again , one pub took 3 casks !
In 2023 Bowler's acquired the brand and recipes for Hopshackle Ales. Hopshackle’s multi-award winning real ales were produced from its brewery in Market Deeping. Upon his retirement, the previous owner wanted a ‘safe pair of hands’ to entrust the ales that had he had developed over the previous 17 years, and we are delighted to continue the Hopshackle legacy.

Gravity poured, third of a pint: 24th Aug 2016, Peterborough CAMRA beer festival. Golden amber with a weak white head. Thought this was like a watered down version of their APA (4.3%), which I had in the glass by it’s side. So, this is citrus led and fairly subtle in its make-up. Expected more from both beers and because of that I did not try their other two brews at the festival.

Gravity poured, third of a pint: 24th Aug 2016, Peterborough CAMRA beer festival. Amber in colour, the head a thin white affair. Mild citrus front to both the nose and flavours, mixed fruits throughout and subtle compared to most APA’s I have encountered, even UK brewed examples.

Bottle at home, 12/05/16. Deep amber to Frank Coopers orange marmalade with a decent enough light beige cap. Nose is light must, pineapple chunks that have sat in the fridge for 10 days, light peppery spice, caramel malt. Taste comprises sweet malt, caramel sauce, toasted brown sugar, fruit loaf, toffee, candied orange peel. Medium + body, limited to low carbonation, sweet malty close with light hop bitterness. Unlike the VC that I had 5 weeks ago, the VF has not held up as gracefully. Hops have faded much more ... now more akin to an aged barleywine. That said if you want to pick one up ... it’s still sippable!
