Can from Le Collier. Pretty deep reddish amber color with a high, bubbly head. Caramel amber malt nose, light cherry and grain, not particularly rich. Rather plain. Ok malt character, again some caramel, a bit of cherry and strawberries, touch of chocolate, earthy, grassy finish. Ok. Quite bitter in the end. Not bad, but perhaps Amber Yebisu is just as good. And what the hell is Spanish about this? Body works well enough. A bit rough.

680 3/4 pint at the Hub. A clear amber pour with an off-white head. Very mild malty sweet chocolate aroma. The taste is a bit thin bodied, a rough amber ale. Malty sweet but not such a clean flavor. It’s decent & the Price is right.

Draft - HUB English style ale? - Toasted malts and light caramel. Clear amber with a rich white head. Toasted malts and a hint of toffee with some grains. Light bitterness, could have done with a bit of sweetness.

0,35 l can from Niigata prefecture store @ Omotesando. This one is using some koshihikari rice from Niigata prefecture. Pours with a foamy white top that is gone in a few seconds. Very clear. Aroma is sweet, no hops, no malts, more like corn sweetness or sweet ricecake. A little of acidity, making the aroma a bit more fresh. Tastes pretty much as it smells – some slight sweetness, almost no bitteness, pretty watery and slightly sour body with some corn sweetness. I guess this is quite average, easy-to-drink Asian lager where rice has been used to give some “authentic” taste. Unfortunately in this case it does not really add up to a good beer – I wish they were more radical and experimented more.

350 ml can. Pours with a nice, slightly brownish top that keeps well. Dark reddish amber. Rich aroma, some fresh floral hops mixed with soft tropical fruits - mango and papaya. Taste is smooth, with some soft malts in the beginning and lingering caramel and hop bitterness at the end. Aftertaste caramel, almost as if I had some porter instead of amber ale. Light-mid body with a soft and smooth mouthfeel. Very Japanese and nicely balanced.

Can from Liquor Mountain. It poured with lots of amber head, lightly carbonated with a malty/caramel aroma reminiscent of Guiness. It had a pleasent mouthfeel.

I found this bottle in Mike’s cellar. Nice. Pours a clear dark amber color with a small white head. A sweet nose of toffee and caramel, some fruity hops. Clean flavor, fairly hoppy with light bitterness, caramel, a little bit dusty. A good amber. Japanese tick number 77!

Bottle - Caramel malts, lowery and lots of cherry. Opaque amber with a decent beige head. Toffee, cherry and some candy floss with a syrupy sticky finish. Nice sticky amber, especially if you like cherry.
