Description
Kalamazoo's 1st Brewpub!
Welcome to Olde Peninsula Brewpub and Restaurant, Kalamazoo's first Brewpub, opened on St. Patrick's Day in 1996. Previously known as the "Big Corner," this three story structure was built by Nicholas Bauman in 1874 as the Peninsula Restaurant.
This elegant restaurant gave way to the Franklin and Folz clothing store from 1884 to 1924. Through the years, the building housed a succession of business, including the Kalamazoo Stove Company, a book bindery, and a hotel. It became the headquarters for W.R. Biggs/Gilmore Agency in 1973. Severely damaged by the 1980 tornado, the building was completely rehabilitated in 1980-81. The current owners, Marie and Steve Blinn, wish to bring back a piece of history for all of Kalamazoo to enjoy. We are proud to offer the freshest beer available, brewed on-site in our 7-barrel Brewhouse. On behalf of all of our staff, we hope you relax and enjoy your experience at Olde Peninsula.

Draft. Truly a “black patent malt” stout. Taste is full of French roast coffee and Special Dark chocolate. There are hops here, but they only say “hi” after you swish it around with your tongue. Strong taste that cuts through a mouthful of salty chips.

Draft. Not quite a porter; its malt profile is less complex. A good-looking brown beer body, though its taste runs a little thin at first. I go get a nice touch of coffee and chocolate toward the end, though.

Draft. Probably the only klinker on tap there at the time. Not easy to determine what it sould taste like, but I'm sure it could use a little more hopping.

Draft. Color is much more like a beer than any other raspberry beverage I’ve had in Michigan over the weekend. Taste has much more hoppiness and malt to it. Raspberries are there sharing the taste instead of overpowering it.

Draft. A good pale ale, which calls to mind a Goose island Honker’s Ale for me. The sharop bitterness of an APA only starts to creep up on you as go get further into the glass.

Draft. I didn't classify this as a "Light" because it includes wheat in its grain bill. The description says “lightly hopped,” but the wheat taste is well represented and makes up for it. OP claims 116 calories in a 12 oz. glass.

Draft. Mouthfeel is light, like a good pub pull, although I believe this is force carbonated. good dark English taste. Slight bitterness that only comes out of hiding toward the end.

Draft. A good starter ale. Greater fruitiness and hop spiciness that other ambers I've tasted lately. Taste is something close to how Pete's Wicked used to taste.
