Draft at Brewerkz, Riverside Point. Poured a mostly clear dark brown colour with a big, lasting frothy, Guinness-like, tan head and some clingy lace. The aroma is light roasted malt, light coffee, chocolate. The flavour is light sweet and liqourice bitter, with a smooth but watery, light liqourice bitter, earthy, light chocolate palate. Medium to light bodied with flat carbonation. Looks awesome, but it lacks body and any kind of defining flavours. Even the staff didn’t actually recommend it, but I’m brave!

Cask at Brewerkz, Riverside Point. Poured a murky medium brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is yeasty and floral. The flavour is light bitter with a herbal, earthy, big yeasty, floral medicinal, very light hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation. Pretty awful and I had to send it back. Nothing like a well kept English bitter. Maybe it’s the end of the barrel or maybe they are not selling enough, but either way it was really unpleasant.

Bottle from October 2008!!! Dark brown coloured body with a nice opaque and deep brown glow with a good, three centimetre tall rich brown head that fades moderately and doesn't leave anything at all on the sides - beautiful, considering the age here - amazing! Aroma of roasted malt (of course), some oats, a lot of caramelised sugars, some toffee, treacle, raisins, figs and a good dose of molasses, with some alcohol noticeable in the nose, but not much. Medium-bodied; Rich malts show up front with some good sweetness from the caramel and molasses with a light dose of coffee and bitterness here, but a relatively smooth oat profile at the end with a good dose of mild figs and prunes that bring out some fruits at the tail end. Aftertaste shows some additional sugars, with a light bitter aftertaste from the roasted malts with a good kick of vanilla and earth noticeable throughout and a touch of alcohol, but not much. Overall, a surprisingly well-kept beer that shows nicely and brings out all the flavours you'd expect with some nuanced notes, a dash of bitterness and sweetness, but good throughout and somehow, very nice to keep in my own possession, having flown halfway around the world for 15 years, and surviving a move, a wedding and births of three kids! I sampled this perfectly clear, nicely boxed (it is Singapore after all), 640 (wierd size) perfectly clear bottle, purchased from Brewerkz Brewery (in Clark Quay) from Singapore, Singapore on 28-November-2008 with my [now wife], brought back and sampled during my 10k beer rating celebration on 25-June-2023 at home here in Washington on the other side of the planet.
