Bottle @ Papsø. Rating #6700. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a sweetish roasted malty chocolate aroma with hints of bourbon barrel. Roasted malty bourbon chocolate and vanilla flavor. Has a smooth roasted malty chocolate and bourbon finish with hints of vanilla in the aftertaste.

Bottle @ Papsø. Pours a dark ruby black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty thick chocolate aroma with some weak hints of licorice. Sweetish malty roasted chocolate and caramel flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate finish with some bitter hints in the aftertaste.

A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, a smooth musky chocolate, light soy sauce, a bit salty, not bad. In mouth, a nice smooth and bitter chocolate, with toasted coffee beans, not very bourbon barrel-like but good nonetheless. On tap at Brewvival, Feb. 26 2011.

Bottle at the 5th Annual Richmond Industry Gathering on 11/28/2010. Clear black body with a small brown head. Sweet chocolate, roast and vanilla aroma. Big chocolate, vanilla and caramel flavor. Medium full body with mdoerately low carbonation.

Tap at Cape Fear in Wilmington. Cloudy variegated golden brown color, medium off white head, solid lacing. Aroma has tons of citrus. Taste has lots of citrus and pine, but is not massively bitter. Finally, an approachable and drinkable DIPA!

My friend Franc brought a bottle of this back from a trip to North Carolina. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured thick, black and oily with a medium sized very dark brown head that produced good lacing. The aroma was bourbon, wood, port wine, vanilla, coconut and anise. The flavor was bourbon, vanilla, wood, coconut, vanilla, port wine, toasty malts and a hint of cocoa. The finish was long with bourbon and wood. Thick and full bodied. The alcohol was fairly well concealed. Wonderful.

22oz bottle pours a watery, nearly opaque black with a thin, creamy, beige head. Sweet aroma, molasses, nuts, toasted bread, malty, Belgian chocolate, some caramel. Flavor is sweet, malty sugar, a little vanilla, toasted bread, brownie batter, caramel frosting, licorice, a little dark fruit and some dried fruit. Sounds like it might be cloying, but it isn’t. Finish is full bodied and dry. Very nice.

Tasted at the big “SeaBass has got to go” tasting courtesy of fishingnet. Pours amber with full tan head. The modest aroma is sweet with some dark fruity esters mixing with caramel as well as sugary malt sweetness and seems to lack earthiness this style typically has. The taste is dark roasted malts, prunes, a bit of fig meat note, chocolate and then a pleasing level of earthiness into the finish. Nice stuff.

Bottle @ Seabass going away party, Jan15th ’11. brune foncée approchant le noir, col est mi-café au lait.beige. Malt et caramel, note moka avec au fini une légère amertume de chocolat. Alcool est réchauffant au palais.
