Description
The brewery was set up at the end of 2004 in a beautiful farmhouse called “L’Olmaia” in Val D’Orcia, near Siena, Tuscany, initially as a small firm producing up to 300 litres per batch.
In 2009 it was relocated a few kilometers to the east in the area of Sant’Albino, near Montepulciano, where the products could be sold directly to the public. Throughout the year we produce 6 types of beer, plus some special seasonal beers, all of which are strictly unpasteurized, unfiltered and re-fermented, both in the keg and in the bottle. The production plant was built, according to our production needs, by the company Tefo of Parma, and it now has a production capacity of 2,500 litres per batch thanks to 4 cylindroconical fermentation tanks with a capacity of 2,500 litres and 2 with a capacity of 1,500 litres.
Inside the Brewery you can find the Tap Room with 6 beers on tap, cold cuts, cheeses and bottled beers.

33cl bottle @ Niamey craft beer tasting, merci Richard.

On tap. Hazy reddish brown colour, thin beige head. Aroma of caramel, figs, light floral notes, hint of hops. Flavour is sweet, light malty, caramel, figs and prunes, light floral, a bit watery at times, bitter finish. Light bodied. Bland, but certainly drinkable.

The Italian craft beer revolution was one of the earliest in the modern European craft beer wave and started off already in the nineties with imitations of traditional Belgian style ales; this is one such ‘old-fashioned’ example, a Belgian style dubbel brewed in Montepulciano (renowned for its wine) in Tuscany. Thick and creamy, papery lacing, pale greyish beige, slowly middle-opening head over a misty dark chestnut brown beer with wine red glow. Aroma of spiced bread, dried ginger, black peppercorns, toasted bread crust, nutmeg, fried bell pepper, toffee, cloves, black chocolate, pecan nuts, glue. Sweetish onset in a subdued way, some fig and apple peel, quite fizzy carbonation adding a dim sourish aspect, toasted bread crust- and toasted walnut-like malt body, caramelly at its edges but much less sweet and more dry toasty-bitterish than the average Belgian dubbel, with on top of that, a peppery, leafy hoppiness bringing more bitterness in the finish. Some spiciness of cloves and nutmeg accentuate this dry, peppery, even slightly astringent finish, with not very well hidden alcohol enhancing the astringent note. Spicy, bitter, dry interpretation of a dubbel and in that sense quite original.
