Description

More for sherry fans than IPA fans. Very dark, fairly complex. Pic: having finished Wednesday, I can affirm there's some truth to this meme 😆

Opaque black brown beer, small tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, a modest dark chocolate. A mild smokey whiskey aspect that I wasn't expecting or desiring. The PX barrelling brings a trace of oaky vanilla and a little sherry richness but nothing like I was hoping for. Smooth and slightly savoury and spicy finish. Yeah, nice Impy, just not the PX celebration it was going to be in my head.

330 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with moderate head. Notes of bourbon and soft peaty whisky on a nice caramel malt base. Peatiness is not overbearing and without iodine flavors. A little thin to start but otherwise very good.

Pours a very dark brown with light head. Subtle barrel effect. Sweet and salty chocolate, with a bit of dry oak and roasted malts. Very nice.

A light haze on this gold amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth malts, a light creamy sweetness, a nice light touch of caramel toffee sweetness. Loads of Cognac, very good because its fruity and rich and has a nice sherry vibe. Ripe fruits and crystallised fruits abound. A little oak barrel infused vanilla. Lovely. An innocuous looking barleywine in a little bottle but so much better than other barleywines served in fancier bottles. Spot on Cognac barrelling over a tidy base barleywine. If you don't like this then I would be curious to hear what you expect from a beer like this?
